A/T Tires made for Limited Wheels (265/60/20)

This thread comes across as if this tire is approved for a 7" wide wheel. I'm just making sure nobody gets the wrong idea.

Getting this tire is practically the same as getting a 275/60/20 tire.

Sadly I think I'm gonna have to settle for some non AT tires for now.

The General Grabber HTS in 275/55/20 is actually approved for a 7' wide wheel (weird I know).

Luckily, you live in Cali and don't need all seasons and the Grabbers will work perfectly for you and then you can grab some steelies for off roading. I am going to get the Bridgestone H/Ls that have a 70000 mile warranty since I am driving 90% highway and some on my dirt/ gravel road when I visit my farmlands.

Priced them out with install and road hazard and total price came to about $1800.00. Total price for my wheel/tire combination on tire rack is $1844.00 Minus 700 to 900 dollars for what I will get for the LE wheels = $1000.00 ...Done! Bam!

Thanks for the heads up. I thought the OP said they were 7" approved, but looking at the specs, they are just another 7.5" approved tire that LE owners can't get. Seriously, the 7" wheel is such an eff-up.

Tirerack.com originally had them listed for a 7" wheel and after a month or 2 they changed it to a 7.5" wheel. I've heard of this happening to numerous other tires listed on their site

Yep.... According to General Tire customer service, they use ETRTO for their tire ratings and recommendations. (I'm assuming all of the Continental group does as well.) ETRTO requires a minimum 7.5" width for 275/55R20.

FWIW, it wasn't Tire Rack. Tire Rack posted the General and Continental specs as-is. General had a typo/error in their own published specs. General ended up giving me credit for my original purchase 100% even with a good 7000 miles on them. Good on them to fix their mistake, so I really can't complain.

Yea, I kinda figured trackrack was just reporting what the manufacturer gave them but good to know General made it right. I am sure the last thing they want is a wrongful injury lawsuit on their hands due to improperly reporting their tire specs..

I have never posted on here before, but I have a 2013 Limited and still have the stock wheels and tires. I have been following all of the threads and have been exploring my options. I like the stock wheels (appearance) and would prefer to keep them. Today I was getting a vehicle inspected for my wife at our local shop and asked them about replacement tires. The owner of the shop looked online and quickly recommended the Nittos (265/60 R20) for $239 each. He said there is no issue whatsoever putting them on the stock rims. He said it would add about an inch (or half inch) to my clearance. It is a good looking tire and it comes with a 50,000 mile warranty.

I still have some miles left on the stock tires, but I will be going with the Nittos when needed.

Michelin Premier LTX for Limited

Tires on my 2010 Ltd. will be replaced before winter. Frustrated by the lack of choice and reluctant to divert from original size tires (245/60x20). However, the recently introduced Michelin Premier LTX looks like as good a tire as any right now - $228 a tire at Sears, $987.80 for 4 tires installed including disposal fee for old tires. Although not an aggressive tread, my initial research surfaced several positive reviews of the new Michelin. If any of you have insight on this tire, would appreciate your thoughts.

As I have 2 sets of wheels for my 2013 Tacoma (original aluminum and a set of steel wheels), I may use the aluminum Tacoma wheels on the 4Runner and take advantage of the larger selection available for this wheel (would probably go with a LT245/75R17 which is about same diameter as the 4Runner's 20" tires.

could try +zero sizing : 275/55-20. you have a lot more options for tires when you go with this size.

I have just spent the last month trying to decide what to do on my Limited. Options are:

1) Find a more capable off-road tire in a stock size - Little to no options.
2) Swap out the 20" rims for a set of 17s - Best option as it widens the list of available options at a much more attractive price point. However I like the look of the 20s and I don't really want to go through the hassle of swapping out 5 wheels (incl spare).
3) Go with 265/60R20s - This size will be installed by most installers, but the diameter of this tire is almost a full 1" larger than the stock tire and may introduce rubbing.
4) Go the 275/55R20s - This size is run by many on this forum with no issues and is similar in diameter to the stock wheel so there should be no difference in speedometer calibration. However this size is not recommended by the tire manufacturers and will not be mounted by most installers.

I have finally resorted to go with option #4. I was told that the 20" rim has an inner and outer bead which would reduce the risk of any tire mishap even though the 275/55 is not recommend.

It's a risk, but the empirical evidence shows that it should be OK based on other's experiences.

Thanks for your suggestion, however in checking out several of the tires (275/55-20), specs indicate that although the tire dimensions are appropriate, these tires require a minimum rim size of 7.5". Thus I'm reluctant to mount them on the 4Runner's 7" rims. Again, very frustrating trying to deal with the Limited's somewhat bizarre wheel size.
