Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for the best way to change my TE wheels to black?

Paint, Plasti, etc. ?????

I powder coated mine matte black. Love the TE wheels in black. I would not plastidip wheels IMO.

Your choice...

$75-$100 per wheel to have them powdercoated. Powdercoat chips pretty easily in my experience, especially if you spend much time offroad. There are several manufacturers of wheels out there that you can just buy a new set of black wheels with more width and aggressive offset for around $400-$500. That alone makes powder coating a waste of money and time.

$6 a can (probably take 2 cans) for plasti-dip. This is hands down my recommendation. If you take your time to clean the wheels and apply the dip properly, it will stay on indefinitely. The rubber nature of it resists chipping/tearing greatly. And if it does chip/tear, you have the option of peeling it all off to re-apply a clean coat(s) or it is very easy to repair.

Plastidip is the way to go, you can even put a layer of clear coat over it to protect, glossy or matte.

If you want to black them out I'd go with powder coating... I painted my TE rims with Dupli-Color wheel paint and 3 out of 4 came out. I ended up buying Level 8 Trackers from Discount Tire in the end (I think I'm the only one muahahaha). Painting is a huge PITA. Plasti-dip as the others have said is the cheap and easy way to go if you don't want to commit to paint/powder coating right away and it doesn't look bad at all.

i plasit dipped mine.... took about 3 hours.. pretty easy. take some paper rip it up, into squares, and put along the bead of the tire and wheel, and spray.. let dry for about 30 min.. then i put them on the truck.. lasted a while.. hasnt come off yet.. :biggrin2:
