About rear sag

I checked my 96 for recall's for the heck of it Sunday and it had the open recall on rear suspension. Took it in today and they ordered new rear coils.
Gotta love Toyota customer service.
 
I checked my VIN last week on the Toyota recall notice site and it said my vehicle was not open to the recall - manufactured 6/97 and according to the VIN parameters my truck should be covered, I'll call the local Yota Stealership Monday.
 
hey jrm u ever get those ome springs put on the rear?.. im curious to see how that looks, im thinking bout giving my 4runner the same stance
 
Good on paper doesnt matter I guess...

I checked Toyota Recall Information ? 2009-2011 Toyota Recall List and my 4runner isn't on the list, even though my VIN is on the list posted in this forum... I called Toyota (Tustin, CA) and they checked my VIN over the phone (pretty sure the service woman used the same data base) and said my 4runner was good... I don't feel like wasting my time taking it in for them to tell me the same thing... kinda makes no since if you ask me, considering there were close to 250,000 that qualified for the recall...
 
Checked this thread after buying new OEM shocks for my new to me 4runner - checked with the local dealership and they replaced them only 20K miles ago. I was happy to retun those shocks. Now on to replace the front struts.
 
My 4Runner is suffering from the rear sag.

Looking for suggestions on what all I should have replaced if I want it back to the stock height. I'm not looking for any type of lift since this is my daily driver.

Any info that would help me get a parts list together would be great!

Shocks and Struts have no impact on ride height.

I have seen several people mention buying them to fix the issue, this is bad information.

The shock/damper/struts only control the rebound (bouncing) of the spring, not the height or sag of the vehicle.

Please also be aware of any rubber isolators as these can be worth an inch in height on many vehicles, leaving rotted ones in or forgetting to replace them will also result in an increase of noise and vibration.

The Recall is not intended to correct rear sag, only to correct a safety concern on RWD (2WD) Tacomas and 4runners.

To prevent confusion (since most 4X4s are really spending 90% of their live as RWD (2wd) trucks) Toyota decided update all the trucks.
 
I have a 98 SR5 4wd that is out of the vin range mentioned. I have new tokico shocks and I noticed that when I have passengers in the truck it drives completely different over bumps then when I am alone. It just seems like the rear suspension is lost when going over bumps. Is this the main complaint from customers? Since I am not in the vin range should I just install new rear springs? Thanks in advance.
 
I just got the rear coils in my '97 replaced and the increase in ride comfort/stability is definitely notable, although I measured the ride height before and after the coil springs were replaced and didn't notice a difference I think it was like 34 1'2in at the apex of the rear wheel well.
 
this caught my eye so i went through the entire thing..

finally went to the toyota site and tryed the vin verification thing..

it showed that my runner doesnt have any opens for it..

should i believe this or should i still go in and talk to the dealers??..

1999 sag

hey guys. just wanted to ask your opinion of the Toytec rear 1.5" spacers. Im a college student so not ready to drop the money on a real lift. (2 more years). but the rear sag really does piss me off and i'd be fine with a raked look over a saggy look any day. so what do you guys think? do it or not?:D

looks like they replaced the stopper with a smaller one?
 
Cool, just called up the local dealer so they can order the parts. I have a 2wd so I'm expecting new bumpers and springs and the guy on the phone confirmed that.

Mine ride home last night was rough enough that I looked underneath and saw the whole 1" of uptravel that I currently have. I hit google and ended up on this thread.

The pictures above made me want to get the recall done. I have to believe the tiny uptravel makes things rougher. My 4r rides like a brick currently.

Hi, i just found this thread few days ago looking for some info on my rear sag problem. Thanks to this thread i call my local Toyota Dealer (Tejas Toyota) and today they replaced my defective parts on my 98 SR5, if u have the same problem i was having call your dealer with your VIN # and they will help U. Thanks :trophy::trophy:
