ABS/Skid control module, any insight?

2002 sr5
210k miles

Symptoms: ABS, Brake, VSC off, VSC trac lights are all on. No CEL. Speedo + everything works. Only 2 times I've hit the brakes and heard a failing pumping sound - with my rig not stopping like it should.

I've had it diagnosed by a Toyota certified mechanic. His insight is to replace the entire ABS / VSC control module. The unit that sits under/behind the brake fluid reservoir.

New part is over $1800
YodaJim / Ebay have it for around $450-500

Does anyone have experience with this issue and did this potential remedy fix your problem? THX

I had this happen to me and it was the vsc trac skid control module/ecu.
quick easy fix!

01 and 02 only had these.

did you do a zero point calibration of the yaw rate sensor or buy a new vac/trac ECU????

I misunderstood your post as you stated the speedometer works, Yes it could very well be the brake module assembly.
I have a known good one if you can't find one.

Thats really odd, If you end up needing one I would sell mine for 200 shipped.

I'd try a lot of things before replacing that module. Zero point for starters.

this is my whole dilemma !!!

i have tried the zero point many times...

i doubt its the module as everything was fine until after an alignment...

but the calibration never works,,,,

I'm guessing you followed the wrong tutorial. There is a tutorial out there that only gives you half the steps needed to properly zero point. Refer to your FSM for the proper procedure. I had the same issue until after I did this.

Took both front speed sensors out and cleaned them. Code keeps coming back.
A buddy told me to check that speed sensors are not loose or damaged.

I have not had the time to do that yet. I will check that first and then do a zero point calibration.

You can clear those lights as if it's a check engine light?

Not sure but I get the PO446 all the time with the VSC/TRAC lights and clearing the code gets rid of them. Probably best if I fix it lol

I passed my emissions test yesterday.
I just need a regular OBD II scanner?

I got a scanguage ll and LOVE it, but there are probably better options now. If you just want a scanner, I see them all the time on newegg.com for cheap.
