ABS Switch - Easy, effective and simple

Holy crap, I thought I was the only one on the planet who got to feel like an idiot after buying a t4r with an elocker switch in it, but no elocker. I had the locker in my first t4r and swore id never buy one without it. Sold that one a couple years ago and early this year I bought the one I have now. It had the switch in it, I got it from a stealership so when i hoped in and saw the switch I figured I was good to go. Got home and tried a little ditch crossing, no go. After trying to figure out the problem I found no locker underneath.

I don't need an e-locker, I have an ARB!

Ohhh, that was in reference to "The Kid"s comments on the previous page about how he bought a runner with the switch in it but no locker. Same happened to me, switch is there but no locker or ecu for the locker, just a switch someone stuck in. Talk about pissed, I called the dealership up but got nowhere with it. I will get a locker in it someday, when I have the time and good enough weather again.

As for the mod, whats strange is that in mine the when I lock the diff, both the diff lock and ABS light illuminate.

That is weird. The ABS light would signify a malfunction.

But it goes away when you unlock your diff. Does your ABS work normally when the diff is unlocked?

The ABS is shut off when locker is on. I wanna ditch my ABS all together. It sucks off road, and is a complete POS on ice. If I would get off my a$$ and get my hub swap done, so will the nasty ABS.

ABS light illuminates to signal that the system is not operating. Mine works as described in the owner manual, and yes, the ABS system functions as it should when unlocked. I'm not sure why your mod doesn't light the ABS light if it is disabled.

Interesting. I'm going to have to try to lock up the brakes to see if my ABS is disabled.

Actually I don't think you can do this mod if you DO have the factory locker.
I don't have a factory locker and did it. I'm not 100% sure it does disable the ABS. This weekend while wheeling I'm going to prove that it does work.

But Mine and Clownmeats runners, dont have the locker and neither of ours have the conector behind the left kick pannel.

I have never paid attention if the abs light comes on when my elocker switch is turned on. I will have to try on the frost in the morning.

Yoterman87, some of the runners came pre-wired for the locker but did not have the locker, and some had nothing, and well some had it all. i think you and CM and i are all among the guys who have nothing. so if you have nothing you are SOL for this mod(as it is done in this thread). i would like to dissable my abs, as it sucks and ive had some close calls because of it.

and toms97, yeah i just put an ARB in mine, it was way cheaper than doing the Elocker retrofit, but i also got my ARB used and basically stole it. but i still think the ARB is the better choice(imo) for putting a selectable locker in your vehicle, cause you get on board air too along with the locker.

If this works as advertised then it is great for those prewired with an ARB. I know it is the route I would be taking if I ever picked up an ARB for the rear but for now im planning to go with an e-locker.

the kid, yeah that was one of the first things I looked at. I simply can't afford a new ARB anytime soon so unless I found one at a good price it just isn't happening. There is a bone yard about an hour from here, they have two runners in there with lockers. I talked to them and can pick up the complete rear end and locker ECU for $450. I find this route appealing because I want to regear front and rear along with replacing bearings and seals while im at it. The only problem, I need the extra money and time to go and pick the rear end up. Once thats in the garage all safe and sound I can take my time getting the rest of the stuff ready to do it all.

Time and money, two things I never seem to have enough of.

You guys are confusing me now...

The ABS light does come on when you lock your diff normally, and ABS is disabled while locked.
You have to have the locker ECU to do this mod.
Apparently some non-locked vehicles have the locker ECU because they are pre-wired for it.

That's it. It sounds like Gerdo is pre-wired for a locker, so he was able to do it.

For those that have nothing, There are other ways to disable your ABS by a switch. I remember seeing a couple threads about that. One way was to run a wire from the ABS fuse to the switch, but that ran alot of current and I think to turn ABS back on after disabling it, you have to actually turn the vehicle off and back on. The other way had something to do with the wiring to the ABS ecu under the hood; it ran less current and might have gotten around the vehicle restart thing. I thought I had them bookmarked, but apparently not. If I find them again, I'll edit this post, but I don't have much time to search anymore. I know they're out there, so you should be able to find them.

Me and CM spent a lot of time on Mitchell yesterday looking at diagrams and we think we have it figured out. we should have the abs disabled on mine today and then we will put together a thread:hatsoff:

While wheeling today I gave the ol' brake peddle a good shove. The tires locked then the ABS kicked in. ;( It didn't work.

You are the electrical wizard. Wrong wire this time. I think you are on track with that connector. We just need to figure out the right wire.

My other option is to cut any wire feeding my ABS module under the hood and wire my switch inline. I would rather pull off the e-locker plug. Once we figure out which wire, it'll be nice that it should be and off/on without restarting the rig.

After doing the mod just as you described, only the RR Diff Lock light comes on. The ABS light does not and therefor the ABS is still active.

I really want to make this work before I start snow wheeling this year. I don't have a wiring diagram.
