Abuse or common failure?

Gents, I’m looking at buying a 4th gen and owner says front strut braces are broke here is a pic. I looked this up and looks like its not a separate part, but part of the shock. Can someone please help me out? Im a first gen guy![emoji16]

My guess is whoever installed the shocks did not put the bottom retaining washer in and it pushed through. I have a hard time believing it broke the washer on both sides. Unfortunately it probably ruined the strut tops.
 
Do you really want to buy a truck from someone who has had that quality of work done in the past?

I'll go ahead and answer .... NO.
 
Not at all but i cant find another that is comparable for price. Guess im getting impatient

Well the shocks and strut tops are shot. I just looked at the pictures again and you can tell that the one with it leaning to one side has eaten away the strut top and more than likely the shaft on the shock. I'd ask if they did the shocks themselves.
 
Im thinking he may have caught air with it and landed hard bottom skid plate is bashed in too

But he wants 6500 and its a sport v8 with 165k mikes, ome lift springs and 5100s

Depends what you are looking to do with it? If you are going to replace it all...then why not? If the exterior and interior and the engine is good...all the other stuff can be fixed. But...after what happened to me and blowing my engine because some previous dipsh*t put stop leak in it...I'd pull a hose or two and see how the coolant or radiator looks on the inside. My coolant showed NO signs of stop leak. I know it's an odd thing to do...but it does leave a residue.
 
either he jumped the truck thinking it was a raptor, or who ever did the install was a complete idiot and didn't install it correctly. I'm thinking the former...
 
I would say for sure someone didn't put the bottom shock washer in. From the looks of the ride, I don't think it was jumped, the skid dent wouldn't be from a jump. I think the washer was forgotten, and the rubber finally gave way, maybe over a speed bump or something.

I agree, most likely they forgot about the bottom washer but hey, you can maybe have them lower the price and just get a lift kit off with the money you saved.
 
He said it broke because he was driving too fast on a dirt road, makes you wonder nut here is the truck it needs a paint job

Other Damage?

Looks like the has back in to something and not replaced/repaired that rear corner panel. Seeing all the dent and dings and the mention of "driving to fast" on a dirt road would make me wonder what other damage it may have.

But, if you are buying it as a toy and not a Daily driver, and already plan to put some time and money in it anyway, then it could be worth it.

But still, I wouldn't trust it simply because it looks like it was not really cared for.

You already know the answer.

Keep looking. Cheaping out now will lead to headaches later and you will be dumping cash into an already flawed platform in the very near future.
 
I would avoid, I bet you can find a better option for $6500. That truck looks beat.

That said my gas tank skid is dented too, just low hanging point under the truck.
