Acceleration ticking

ran this by the mechanics I work with from time to time.. they are 99% positive that toyota just wanted to get rid of you, so they "did" some work....

you know, the douchebaggery like "people like that" really pisses me off. You can't hold your own, yet you do make fun of a guy who called you a dumbass. Great going.

Seems silly for anyone to jump on you for this as NONE OF US HAVE ACTUALLY HEARD THE SOUND so we have no way of knowing for sure what it is, or even how loud it is. If the dealer was willing to do something about it then its entirely possible there is some issue...

but all of this arguing over a noise no one has actually heard seems silly....

I meant to say that the "people like you" statements are used for the most part by douchebags who are not able to come up with a better response.

This is just my 2 cents!

My 93' toy pickup 22r ticked, my 99' tacoma 3.4L ticked, and my 97' 4runner 3.4L ticked, haven't yet heard ticking from my 06' 4runner 4.0L.

But I haven't been driving around the with the window down yet to hear it. Seem pretty strange you wife hears it and you don't.

Here is a story from my 99' tacoma, after my 60k service at the dealer I was noticing a louder then normal ticking so I brought it into dealer and they said thats normal. About 200 miles later i was driving over the mountains and truck freaks out starts shuttering. Find out one spark plug shot out the engine because the dealer had stripped it in the engine block. THIS IS WHY I DON'T TRUST MECHANICS!

I will be interested in finding out what it is.
 
Took it to another dealer today. they are taking it in on monday. Head tech and service manager said its not normal and they will fix. If they cant, they will give me another 4r that doesnt make the noise. If you are in Orlando area, David Maus Toyota all the way. Thats where ill buy my next one.
 
Have you had them look at your HVAC fan? On my Tacoma it was behind the glovebox and it ticked while turning. They replaced it with a new one and it still did it. I think it is something to do with the bearings of the fan. is the noise there when you turn the AC/Heat off?
 
I will check with the ac off. Havent thought to turn that off and try. Good call. All I know is that it makes the noise when the accelerator is being applied. I also talked to them about getting into another 4r. I might get another limited with 4x4 and no gps, or a trail with leather. The sales manager told me he would get me into something if they couldnt make the noise go away. They also said I paid under invoice and that the other dealer lost money on my sale because they couldnt even sell it that low. We will see what happens next week.

I would say that the comment above is a typical Sales maneuver designed to prepare you to pay what he deems to be a more "fare price" when it comes to putting you into a new vehicle!
 
I was told from the day I bought my 43000 sticker 4runner for 37500 that I got a deal I shouldnt have. Im not going to buy another one unless he can work me the same deal.

Wow, invoice on that is around 40k. That dealer lost a some serious money, that's such bad business move I wonder why they did that? Well you got the good end of that deal.

"Fair" is when the customer saves money and the dealer makes money.

I can't help but note the coincidence of getting both a deal and a sound you shouldn't have.

Yes, a subjective but not objective analysis. Much like a win-win situation, with someone usually "winning" a bit better. But then again, like they say, "perception is reality". If you think you are getting a great deal, it's all that matters.
 
UPDATE:

Southeast Toyota got involved. Sent a master technician to my local dealer. FIXED THE ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
