Add Light strip to Car Alarm

Hey guys,

I am not very good at trouble shooting these things. I have searched a few times in a few different manners and haven't found what I'm looking for. I have a Titan Innovations Alarm system. I want to hook up an led strip that turns on when the alarm is armed and off when it's unarmed. I'm not sure how to wire it up though. I thought of trying to splice into the led lights, but they do not have constant power, it pulses to allow it to blink.

I've attached the diagram of the alarm systems wiring. Any thoughts would be helpful.

There is nothing in your diagrams that show the led lead.

Most alarm systems I've dealt with do not pulse the signal to the warning circuit. I would test this with another led or bulb on the same circuit to confirm.

I'll try that. The wire that goes to the antenna and leds actually has 5 wires in it. I pulled the antenna/valet switch open last night so it should be too difficult. Thanks for the advice.

I tested with an led and tester, it is on a pulse. I tested it at the antenna and the brain, coming out of the circuit board it is pulsed. Searching for a better option I was testing the loads on different wires.

When I first tried the trunk, hood and start wires had 240mA on them with the alarm on. I tried to test it with the alarm off, but now I can't get any readings, alarm on or off. Would it make sense when the alarm in on, the hood and trunk wires would have power coming from them, but when the alarm is off, no power?

It is most likely, that when armed, the control box is looking/sending a signal. This way, when that signal is broken, the alarm will sound. For instance, the door sees 12v power. When the door is opened while that signal is hot, it triggers a ground or open circuit. Thus, setting the alarm off.

If this signal is not resistance sensitive, I don't see why you couldn't tie that into the led scanner.
 
Well I guess I'l try that then, hopefully it works, if nothing else it's still daylight so my neighbours shouldn't get too pissed off.
 
well I used a splice to hook into the purple, + door pin wire, no such luck. I'm really not sure what else to do, it would probably be easier to wire it so it's on when the ignition is off and turns off when the car is running. Any thoughts?

I really should done more electronics classes in high school.

Use a 5 pin relay to accomplish that. The relay will be normally closed (terminal 87a) when "off", and open the circuit when the vehicle is started.

I'm sure there is a wire in your alarm system that is ignition-only hot.

These will be the relay connections:

87A- hot feed to your LED strip (ground the other wire on the LED strip)
30- Battery +12V
85- ignition+12V
86- Ground
87- unused


This will light the LED when the truck is off, and turn it off when running.:trophy:

Hmm, well I'm not sure what I did, but it now seems a though my alarm does not work any more. Interesting, It locks, unlocks and remote starts just fine, but if I open the door with the alarm the siren does not go off. Thankfully it's not a hug deal where I live. None the less, the splice mark in the door pin wire may void the help I get from the installer. Any thoughts? What have I done!? FML.

More on topic, I will pick up the relay tomorrow and we shall see.

Double checked the fuses on the alarm unit, all good. Will look at fuses elsewhere tomorrow, though the truck is operating normally. Just not the features of a starter/alarm.

Ducmonsta - I thought so too, but there are no light flashes indicating why it won't start and the alarm doesn't sound at all, I'm going to have another look again tomorrow.

I appreciate the ongoing help more than I can tell you. I'll report back tomorrow... Hopefully with some better news.
 
So I spent a bunch of time on the phone with the Titan Tech, restarted everything re-learned everything, still won't remote start. Oh well I guess I'll have to take it in. Tech said there shouldn't be an issue with warranty. I think I'm going to put this on hold for a while.

I think I'll take Antman's suggested route. Thanks for the assistance gents. I'll post some pics when I get it all hooked up.
 
Alarm is back up and running. Picked up the relay and proper receptacle. Wired it all up on Monday using an empty spot in the fuse box. Works like a charm. Turns off when it's running, on when it's not. Thanks again! Beauty. The "NightRunner" is born! LOL I'm a geek. Embrace it. I'd throw a video on, but youtube doesn't like me right now.

Hah, I knew that's where this was headed, although I was guessing the classic red. Do you not have laws up there about flashing blue lights? :police: I think it varies by state here. But hey, at least the hood scoop has a function now.

Yep, there are. If it's parked, it's fine. If it lights up while he's driving...there's gonna be trouble. But it does look great though!
 
man i have the night raider from plasmaglow on my 4th gen, it was cool, some leds are not working on mines, but i had lots of complements, really bright and everyone knows it.
