Add me to the AT/3 club

I was on the fence between these and Duratracs. Aside from the cost, it seems these will last longer and be more tame on pavement. I also recall that the Duratracs tend to have sidewall issues although that's probably due to the type of use they will see. Really though, I'm sure there's enough positive/negative to justify the purchase for either tire. If this wasn't a vehicle I share with my better half, I might have been tempted to go more aggressive (or gotten these bigger and higher rated) but I'm fairly happy with these so far. Good luck!

Yeah, my wife has her own car. She's only in mine when we're road-tripping or pulling the popup. So I get free reign on the mods. I don't really need the over-aggressive look or performance of the Duratracs, I don't wheel that hard. What convinced me was all the glowing reports of their performance in the snow. We live in Colorado, head to the mountains quite often. I want complete peace of mind that I've got the best tire for the job. Otherwise, it would be the AT/3 or ATP.

FWIW, I've read similar great reports about the AT/3 in snow and ice. I'm moving to CO next year which was part of my justification for the tires. :lookout:

Sure!

$600 Tires
$25 for Misc Disposal/Environmental BS
$40 Mounted/Balanced
$3 Shop Supply

So, about $668 without taxes, and $715 with sales tax. Plus Cooper has that $75 Visa card rebate offer now when you buy 4 of the AT/3.

Just be very careful when getting quotes. These guys don't really seem to know AT from AT/P from AT3 and Cooper is very specific about the rebate not applying to those other models.

Update: Just sold the original tires for $350 locally, bringing my total out-of-pocket to $290.

Dammit, now you've got me thinking again:ybrick:

Hah, I went back and forth quite a few times. It came down to me finding more negative posts about the Duratrac than the AT/3. That's not to say they are bad but I struggled to find many complaints about the AT/3 which weighs heavily. 1engineer's thread on the tires was of some influence too.... if you can't trust an engineer, who can ya trust? :D

D**M!!!
Congrats to bofa and all others who got better pricing than me!
I live in "greater (SF) bay area" in Nor CAL and paid
$924.65 for 4 P stock size AT3 tires from America's Tire back in 8/3/12 which broken down=
$692 ($173/tire X4)
$75 ($25/tire x4 minus $25 No Hassle Replacement Instant Rebate)for "free" replacement Certificate (offered when I was undecided on whether to buy the certificate/tire x4 in the first place;b/c I have never had a sidewall damaged tire in all my 35 years of driving)
$7 ($1.75/tire x4 for " state environmental fee" (CA only?)
$8 ($2/tire x4 for waste tire disposal fee (CA only?)
$64 ($16/tire for installation and lifetime spin balancing)
$16 ($4/tire x4 for TPMS rebuild kit
$62.65 CA state tax

My update after 3600 miles over 2.5 months is essentially similiar comments as to what has been reported by all those who have bought this tire!

Unfortunately earlier this week after a day of easy offroading,I managed somehow to hit a rock @35mph on the PAVED(highway) road heading back down the mountain which tore a clean 2 inch gash into the sidewalk of my front passenger side tire!
As I mentioned in my earlier post, I decided to buy the "free" tire replacement certificate for all 4 tires at initial purchase as a compromise to not buying more expensive and heavier LT tires which has more sidewall plys than a P rated tire instead for possible future scenarios if I damage any tire OFFROADING! Not happy that I managed to destroy one tire on a paved highway instead! Looking on the bright side, I am glad that I did end up buying the "free"replacement certificates!

FYI for others who are buying.considering buying from America's Tire stores, here's how it works when you damage a tire to be non repairable and go back to get a "free" replacement tire covered by the $25 Certificate/tire:
It's NOT really free b/c you will be charged for:
$25 to cover another cert for your replacement tire
$1.75 state required environmental fee (CA only?)
$4 for TPMS Rebuild Kit
Total of $31.10 ($30.75 + "$15.66 tax-$15.31 tax"????)

I also recall that I did not pick the right timing to replace my OEMs'
America's tire offered rebate of $100 off the set of the AT3 tires and additionally Cooper also had manufacturer's rebate either $50 or $75 off promotion on same tires the very next month after I bought mine! :violin:

BTW, America's tires recommend every 5000 miles rotation;free service

Still like mine.

I'm not exactly sure I got P rated now that I've actually looked. I can't find a "P" any where on the tire. Can you, bofa?

toyslug - your pricing isn't really that bad since you got the P rating. The quote I got for a set of P's was very similar to yours. We have those fees too unfortunately. I hate buying from those places with the tire warranties because I feel like I'm an idiot if I don't buy them. At least if the place doesn't sell it, I can't be that idiot, right? :bigok:

veloindy - I don't think cooper has the actual rating on their tire... at least I couldn't find it. I do think it says "standard load" somewhere on mine though... and the ply count should also be on there.

I'll look again tomorrow, I sure couldn't find it tonight...

The sizing is metric instead of P-metric. Virtually identical but there's no P preceding the tire size but, as mentioned, it should say Standard Load on it.

If it were LT, the LT would precede the tire size.

I've only logged a few miles with these so far but here's what I've noticed:

- There is a very slight hum going down smooth pavement. It's not very noticeable or distracting, especially with the radio on low or in conversation. My wife hasn't noticed it yet so that tells me it's just me listening for it. But it is there.

- I feel a bit more grip, especially at lower speeds.

- Cornering takes slightly more effort at low speeds. This is kind of nice really because with the OEM tires it felt a bit more sloppy.

- Small bumps are less harsh.

- There's a slight decrease in the brake dive. It's not much but it feels different and even the wife noticed it. I still plan to at least add the 5100s and maybe springs, but I was surprised to see this.

All of these are minor observations but interesting nonetheless. Besides, it's my only mod so far so I have to enjoy the little things.

Hi bofa,

Very nice "New Paws"!!!; I like the descriptive review as well!

BTW: remember you said this..."Bought tires without telling the wife"??
I'm guess'n she knows by now; but...."don't it feel good to fess-up"??

"That's three cheers for you bloke" :trophy::trophy::trophy: rigtec

I figured she would be a little more upset about it but I think because she knows it's for the move she didn't really care. We've been pretty tight with things lately in order to push this move up a few years (thus the 1 vehicle thing). I picked her up from work that day and she didn't notice until we got home and saw the old ones stacked in the garage. I'm just glad they sold quickly, even though I had to deal with some interesting craigslist peeps. :D

Makes me think the next few items might go over well too...

Well crap, third trip to the tire store today. Vibration came back over the weekend. I'm losing faith in the AT3. Might make a switch to the Revo 2.

The funny thing. Discount Tire said not to go to 6 ply tire, b/c there would be MORE balancing issues. Not sure what to do at this point.

Sorry about your vibration. I have had mine now for 15K and the only vibration problem (minor) was after the 10K rotation and that only lasted for a few days due to tires wearing a bit differently from front to rear. I have bought hundreds of tires in my lifetime and from experience there is no tire company that makes perfect tires all the time. You might get a Revo and it could be worse or it could be better. Probably Michelins in my history have given me the least amount of issues but I needed a different lug pattern this time and Coopers have been historically good to me in the past. Good luck!

Didn't know you were having vibration issues. I was having vibration issues with the stock tires too at certain speeds and pretty much chalked it up to having the same problem as others discussed here. The vibration still exists with the AT/3s although it is more pronounced and I was wondering if that was just due the different shoulders.

I read the vibration poll before I replaced the stock tires. I didn't have ANY vibration issues with the stock tires. The truck rode like a Cadi, ha!

I should also it pulls to the right too. I'm wondering if I have a bad tire. Either way, it's going back today. I'll report back

Very frustrating.

If it's pulling it might be an alignment issue as well. I hate... absolutely hate... chasing steering/vibration issues in cars.
