Additional Lighting

Whats going on? So i have been looking around for a light bar and I see a ton of trucks with them. I was going to get one for my tundra, but when they had first come out or started to be popular i just couldn't see my self spending that much on one at the time. Since then i have traded my tundra and have a T4R. The family and I are always out and about exploring new places, more than what i ever did in the tundra.

So.... with that... I am looking to get a light bar to help with seeing at night. I was on eBay and saw some for cheap. Cheaper than what i thought they would be. Has anyone here had any luck or experience with them? The one i was looking at was by cree. I saw a 20" spot/flood combo. I'm looking to put it in the grill then when i get my roof rack i was looking to get a few up top.

Also has anyone trued the LED headlights?? I was thinking about trying these over the HID.

I would avoid anything Chinese made. Terrible efficiency and the LED's point all over the place. I've seen a few in person that are missing a few screws in the mounts. I highly recommend that you buy the best you can afford or save up for something better. RIGID and BajaDesigns are top of the line, but if you know you are going to use them you can count on their efficiency, high output, and most importantly their reliability.

Hit up Chas at TotalAutomotivePerformance. He has the best deals on light bars with both of those companies. My suggestion would be to buy top shelf lights through him rather than going the cheaper way with something off of eBay. In the long run, the eBay route may prove more time consuming and costly if something breaks.

Long story short, you can't go wrong if you invest in quality.

You can't avoid "Made In China" products. I wouldn't be surprised Rigid Industry stuff are made in china. Or its labeled like Apple products, Made in USA assembled in China. LOL!

They do assemble their stuff in Arizona. However, where the parts are made.... that I don't know.

to OP.

I'm guilty of buying some cheapo Chinese knockoff stuff on Amazon, do I feel guilty or regret paying for a $56 for a 34" light bar or $67 for a 52" light bar... no. I figure what do I have to lose and it gives me a chance to wire everything (done right with quality materials) and if I decide to change something with a high quality product down the line I can.

OPT7 looks like and is probably the same as everyother generic Chinese LED light bar. Same frames different labels but possibly different optics (can't confirm that right now).

OP do what will make you happy, there's thousands of options out there... Paying rubles to paying equivalent of a mortgage payment for lights. (disclaimer: you usually get what you pay for)

Nearly all of Rigid's products are assembled in Arizona of USA sourced materials, there are only a few pieces like circuit boards and things that are sourced from over seas distributors. Baja Designs is 100% made in USA.

Apple stuff says "designed in California, assembled in China" if you took the time to read it. Their Mac Pro humbly says "designed in California, made in USA"

I work at a company that sells to the US government, you can get circuit boards made in USA, and have the parts soldered on in the USA, its the parts that are hard to impossible, like surface mount capacitors.

Go with Hid over LED. You will be much happier. I contemplated the LED and was told by Xenondepot not to go LED. They just are not bright enough. I went HID with the Phillips light upgrade, could not be happier and easy to install.

Both (cheap/expensive) have there advantages and disadvantages, depends on what you want/need. Got 2 of each..........

Cheap: Left 22", right 13"
Pro's - Light output is excellent (compared to stock headlights), priced $90-$160, if we hit a tree/branches/each other and break'em........oh well, who cares.
Con's - Light output is no way near Baja's, light pattern is not as controlled, light color 6,000 to 6,500K which is a blue/purple look, both had seal issues (had to disassemble and reseal), lifetime warranty-sure if you want to return them to China.




Expensive: Top 30", bottom 20" (Stealth Driving/Combo)
Pro's - Light output/throw is outstanding @21,000L, light color 5,000K nice and white, low profile, true lifetime warranty, ability to reconfigure lens from flood to spot, as a bonus-ability to dim light 50% for dusty conditions or turn on strobe function with a secondary switch.
Con's - Pricey $$$$$, but worth every penny in my book!
