Advice sought on toughening the suspension

I have a stock 2005 4Runner and am considering toughening up the suspension because the truck is going to be used in an area with pretty bad roads on an everyday basis.
Are there extra heavy duty shocks I should consider? Anything else? Recommended supplier?

I'm moving to West Africa and the roads there vary from smooth to axle-breaking ruts and holes. The vehicle won't carry heavy loads and speeds will average under 40 mph.
I didn't realize the softer suspension is perferable but it makes sense. I do need new tires so I figure I might as well replace them with something an off-road expert would recommend, plus add any heavy duty components recommended. But any Toyota seems to come equipped and built for that kind of stress anyway, so I'm not trying to overdo it.

So you're shipping your T4R there? What about selling it and getting a T4R with a diesel once you're there? :bigok: Also getting the feel for what the locals do & like might be a good idea.

I would get some tough tires (BFG AT KO is a good start). If you want stronger shocks, then i would consider Bilsteins shocks.
