Advice?

I'm the owner of a 2011 limited and a long-time lurker on these boards. I've been considering doing the "Trail Conversion" that some others have done. I also like the stock trail wheels and might eventually put a modest lift on the truck with some meatier tires and do some mild off-roading.

I'm thinking now, though, that I might just trade the old girl in for a new 2013 Trail model in classic silver before they're all gone (not interested in the new 2014).

So...pro's? Con's? I can live without the smart key and heated seats, but I'm thinking I might really miss auto climate control. I really love my limited gray, but I really want to do the "storm trooper" conversion. Maybe in silver instead of white. I'm conflicted.

So, thoughts? What will I really dig about a new trail? What will I miss from my Limited? My magnetic gray is really pretty, but it gets dirty if I even look at it.

lot of determining factors

is your LE paid for or close to paid off? Are you upside down

Mild offroading = LE is just fine and you retain some of the comfort features of the LE. Personally I wouldn't want clothseats

*** You have BP White.... only like 2 BP white TE conversions I know of. you cant get a BP TE (I know you said silver but BP TE conversions are sexy!)

Priorities:

Do you have permission?

Analysis:

You prefer the features of the LE.
You like the look of the TE (who doesn't).
You do not need TE capabilities (that can't be easily added to your LE)

Conclusion:

Storm Trooper mod the LE. Solves it all, and MUCH cheaper.

Absolute Coolest:

Buy a new LE in BP, and ST mod it. :behindsofa:

no offense to anyone that has done a trail conversion (I do think they look great, especially the white) but I think it's an extreme use of money for a minor change in appearance and the retention of a few features.

^^No offense taken. it is indeed pricey, given the result.

I just completed the conversion and my wife has told me at least ten times how good it looks. But I had damaged my LTD bumpers, which helped me justify the cost. I wouldn't think you can get a clean trade, so looking at it that way, the TEConversion is prolly cheaper if you really want to do it. I honestly don't think I would have done it had I not damaged my old ones though.

Same here, both front and rear bumper needed to be replaced. Deductible was going to cost me $1000, I felt better spending double to do the TE than to spend $1000 for something that's been bothering me.

I wouldn't have done it either if it wasn't for the damage. It worked out in the end and I get compliments on it at least once everytime I drive it, wife loves it too, win win.
esto70 it would end up costing you about the same in my opinion. What you will loose in value, tax and interest would be right about what it would cost you to complete the conversion.

The other thing to consider is are you going to do it on your own like snooper did? If yes, than do the conversion... If you are going to pay a body shop like i did, it might be smarter to traded it in.

At the end of the day you have to make a list of the things you NEED and go from there. For example, now that the wife has been using the smart key for a few years, she wouldn't give that up, one example.

Good luck to you!

haha I knew some people (especially those that have done the conversion) would take it that way which is why I included the disclaimer. not hate, but I stand by my post.:llama:
