Aerodynamics sucks water/snow onto back of truck

My main pet peeve about this truck:

The aerodynamics of the current 4R seem to really suck water or snow on to the back of the truck, making rear visibility poorer when the window gets covered up. This 'effect' has been really, really bad this winter and the rear window never stays clean any time I drive it my 4R. On colder days, the defrost just doesn't work well at all - and we get many cold days. I look at other SUV's on the road and none of them seem to have the rear window getting snowed up like mine does.

drove over a 1000km (about 620 miles) in my 4runner over icy, slushy, snow covered, sandy/salty roads this winter for a snowboard trip. I found that the key was to make sure after a little build up to use the washer fluid and wipe function which helped keep up good visibility. i use a de-icing, winter washer fluid which seems to do a good job.

the back end does build up alot of crap off the road but this happened with my previous vehicles so i'm somewhat used to it by now.

I apply Rain X to the rear window and it works well.

Happened on my GTI. Happens on my wife's MINI. When you move a large square mass through air, it leaves a void behind the tailgate and air rushes to fill that space. Dirt, rain, snow, etc come with that air.

Happened to my Explorer as well (which is why all SUV's/minivans have a rear wiper). It's not unique to the 4R at all.

yeah, it sucks. literally.
X2 for RainX window treatment and RainX de-icer in the fluid reservoir.

My Wifes Jeep does that too as does my sisters Santa Fe and my sister in laws Escalade. Get used to it.

i find the water dropping on the rear window after a car wash more annoying. especially after spending the time to dry the roof.

My '05 had a spoiler on the back that was designed to route air down across the back window. It worked great. This one has a nice looking spoiler, but it does nothing for the backend. Oh well, at least windshield washer fluid is cheap.

Agreed, only time the rear wiper was used on our 05 was to test it when the truck was delivered!! That window just never got dirty no matter what the weather. It also kept the hatch release clear too

Yes, this is very frustrating. I usually have a towel with me and dry off the back after going to the car wash.

I noticed that same effect after I installed Blizzaks. Mud guards and running boards really help the sides tho.
