When we go on the long on road trips we take my wife's Lexus RX450h. Smooth as silk and good mpg. Great for 2-4 people and bags. Toyota quality and reliability with Lexus Luxury. I definitely wouldn't take it off road though. The awd is great for wet or snowy roads, but mud and rocks would stop it easily.

eace:Sure! from canada ,Sure! second language. so sorry for my poor english , and also so sorry for there is no landcruiser in canada, I love gx470 but I dont think I have such big money, I like 4runner but I always think the ride is so soft, also now it has higher trade in value ,want to upgrade a little bit, allways there is a dream car in my heart, including this 4runner, but after I tried on sequoia, I lost my aim, no direction to go , I wish you guys can understand my second language
actually if I went with highlander that is down grade highlander is too much noisy than 4runner.

No vehicle ticks every box, but I've owned several BMW's, a full size pickup, several Tacomas, a Subaru Outback and two other 4Runners. No vehicle ticks every box, but you can't beat a 4R for its combination of value, features, reliability, utility and resale value.
Keep it a couple more years and get a 6th generation 4R whenever they come out. You'll be glad you did.

I tried 2015 AWD XLE Highlander and 2015 4x4 SR5 Premium 4Runner this past weekend, and I do not think the Highlander is noisier.

I still have my 99 3rd gen 4Runner (original owner) with about 160k miles on it(wife drives it). My 2010 LE (55k miles)Is going on 5yrs this sat. I plan on keeping this one for a very long time as well.

If you are not taking it off road, and you are putting that many miles on it, then I like the idea of a Highlander, Pathfinder, or maybe a Pilot (rice options). I found the middle row middle seat of the Pilot unbearable. 2013 Highlander still had that goofy middle seat, and didn't like the 2012 or 2013 Pathfinder rear seat for some reason. It depends if you have two or three kids.
You could try a Subaru Outback with that droning CVT I suppose. If I was in Canada I would for sure get the all weather package (or whatever they call it now) to get the heated seats.
The more money you spend the more you are going to lose in depreciation, unless the car really sucks like a Jeep then you have to include repair cost.
I wouldn't get the top-of-the-line, again, if I was putting that many miles on it.

You mentioned the 4runner being a little soft for you. Why not just swap the springs out for a firmer ride? I like a firmer ride as well and that can be achieved with some suspension upgrades. No need to trade a 3 year old runner. It is still in diapers. Mine is a 2013 but about 2.5 years old and I plan to keep it until it won't roll... probably 30 more years or so. I have a 22 year old Land Cruiser and it still thumps along nicely! I'll probably have that one forever since I'll just put a new engine in it when/if it dies. You are going to be hard pressed to find a better value, more features that really matter, reliability and utility than keeping the 4runner you have now. You can start to modify it if you are just bored with it. Makes it into a whole new vehicle!

my 2012 4runner SR5 is already 3 years old maybe its time to trade it for a new suv but no idea what should I aim for I don't like BMW and mercedaze those luxery SUVs sequoia plantium once is my dream truck before I tried it on, I found I really don't like it, what should I do ? upgrade to 2015 4runner limited? is it worth? seeking some suggestions. I don't do offroad but lots long trip veryyear, only 3 people usually in the car. after 4runner what did you guys bought?
Uhhh if I this deciphered this correctly(Hope I did)....your looking at possibly a replacement vehicle for one that is....not even three years old....I'm not in your league to offer suggestions....I'm barely a waterboy in the minors as I just purchased a 96 with 220k on it and hoping to get another 200 out of it.
