so im running an Alpine CDA-9884 deck, and Alpine type S speakers (6 1/2" components in the front doors and just some 5 1/4" 2 way in the rear doors). i have a JL audio amp -e6450(6 ch 450w) that runs the speakers and my JL audio sub (just a 10"). from the amp to the speakers i ran some 12awg speaker wire to the fronts and some 14awg to the rears, and some 4awg to the sub. i went with that deck cause it had 3sets of RCA outputs in the back(running 3 sets of Kicker monster RCAs from the deck to the amp), i was running a sony deck for a while but the sound was terrible and it only had 2 sets, so i had not input for a sub. i got the amp and sub for $200 from a friend and everything i can tell by the little research i did i got a great deal, the sub came in a box with a grille too.
like i said i was running a sony deck for a while and the sounds was horrible, so bad infact that i thought i had bad/blown speakers. i was also running an Alpine MRP-F300 amp, but it was only a 4 ch -not gonna work for me with a sub, but it was 300w. when i switched decks the sound dramatically improved and i was happy with my speakers.
i have not installed any sound deadening but that will come soon, as i want it for not only muffling road noise and improving sound quality in the truck, but also isolation from the temps as well for sleeping on searches ect.
as a father this make me happy that you are taking on a father son project like this, i hope one day i will be able to do this with my son, and he will share some of my internists and i his. and to the son, i hope you are very appreciative of this, and all your father is doing for you. i did not have a father who gave much time or consideration to me growing up, you could say i had a deadbeat dad. he tried coming back into my life when i was a teenager but treated me like i was 5(around the time he kinda checked out...) yeah anyhow it didnt go over too well. what im saying here, is that i know from first hand experience that there are kids all across this country and all over the world who would kill(and sadly do) to have this kind of an opportunity to spend with their dad working on things and learning together ect. take this time and cherish it! make the best of it and treasure it, you will look back and wish you had more times like this i guarantee you. i work my ass of for what i have, and to make things my own, a lot of blood sweat and tears go into projects like these. i just hope you dont or wont take this for granted. you are not owed anything in this life, the only right you have is to die, everything else in life is a gift -no matter what anyone else or the government tells you. im not saying you are a punk or you dont value your things or you dont respect your father, so please dont take what i said and am saying as so. i say this more in general to all young whipper-snappers out there, i wish someone had taken the time to tell me this. idk maybe someone did and i was just a typical teen and i blew it off and thought i had the world by the tail and i was untouchable -i probably did think that way lol. but yeah if you only take on thing away from this, just thank your dad for what he is doing for and with you.
