There is a firmware upgrade for the Z110BT's to bring them up to the Z120's albeit $200.

do you think the 120bt upgrade is worth the 200$.?

also, since the update comes on a write-once-read-many CD-ROM, and as far as i know, the HU doesnt communicate with pioneer HQ, i think that with 1 upgrade disc you could upgrade many head units...

anybody spend the money on that disc yet?

Absolutely!!
It makes the touch screen work just like the Iphone interface plus has a Pandora app that comes up on the screen from my iphone.

AVIC x920BT questions

Currently I have the stock radio with the 8 speaker and BT and I just bought the x920BT. I'm wondering the following:
1. Would I be able to use the BT mic already installed on my T4R or I do have to install the one from pioneer?

2. Where do you guys have installed the GPS antenna? I haven't seen any info about or picture about that.

The hard way....I guess you probably could get into the wiring diagrams and find out which pin/pins were the factory mic and make a connector to plug into the Pioneer.Definitely not plug and play though

But straight up above the stock HU there is a 4x4 piece of metal that slides in(a couple of plastic tabs hold it in) with the GPS antenna on it. I just pulled it out ,removed the stock one ,and stuck the magnetic Pioneer one on it and slid it back in. You probably have the slot there too

There is no jack per se like "video in"video out" jacks. It's hardwired thru connectors.It's a connector that attaches to the camera itself in the back liftgate and is wired thru the connector that attaches to the mirror or Nav. You will have to read the wiring diagrams to pin it out and find which wire color is what.
Nobody that I know of has done it.Let us know if you do.

looks like i managed to buy all the right harnesses and everything looks and sounds great...

- IPod Works
- Steering wheel controls work
- Sirius Radio works ( not using 'sharkfin' )
- OEM backup camera works and displays on HU and Mirror. You dont have to wait for the unit to boot to get an image.. if you start the truck and put it in reverse, you will see the camera display before the unit is normally done booting.
- Party Mode does not work but the new HU sounds better than party mode ever did!
- Metra Dash kit fits and looks great

now im debating on getting the 200$ z120bt upgrade disk, or just wait for one to hit the torrents.

im happy with the upgrade.:bluejump:

yea. i thought so. thanks for the link. but ENOXARD posted pics. with his runners back up camera conected to his monitor. sounds like he brought it to a shop though. i install audio and video as well. just wonderin wher the conection will be so i dont have to guess when the time comes. wonderin if anyone has done this on their own?

The higher end Pioneer Avics come with standard navi/bt/dvd. But thos will run you around $900+ a unit.

yup! it all depends on your prefrence. i live in an island so the navi really aint no use to me. my player suits my needs with everything else. the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD plays dvds,cds,ipod connection,usb port, sd card port, backup camera connection etc... check out crutchfield.com for more info on this or other players you might like. theyll also throw in free instructions and harnesses you might need!

4runner navigation

Speaking of navigation I wonder if anyone knows of a system available for the 4runner that is more than just a city streets navigator. One where you can view topo maps and which has more advanced GPS functionality. For instance setting and saving waypoints, routes, tracks.

I use Oziexplorer on navigation units that can be "unlocked". Anyone know of such for the 4runner?

A back road capable vehicle like the 4runner needs a back road capable navigation system.

Help/XM antenna w/120bt

I've searched high and low on the internet and have canvassed this forum for days searching for a few answers and haven't been lucky - so here goes:

I just had a Pioneer AVIC-120BT installed in my TE today. It has the Pioneer XM module with it. Good news, nearly everything works great (bluetooth/ipod/radio/navigation), bad news - XM works for about 6" then breaks up. It's horrible. My good friends at Best Buy mounted the XM and GPS antenna above the head unit. I had asked them to figure out a way to use the factory shark fin but that was impossible, so I am told. The GPS seems to work with no problem. I am philosophically opposed to having a shark fin with no purpose on the truck! So...
1) Has ANYONE been able to use the shark fin antenna with the aftermarket Pioneer container, if so, how?
2) If you haven't been able to use that - where are you putting your antenna? I'm in Las Vegas so I'm not exactly off the beaten path for the satellites - nonetheless, I get no reception.
3) If you mounted your antennas outside the interior, did anybody fully removed the shark fin (SeattleMike, I know you pulled it off and put it back on)? What'd you fill the likely hole with? How do you get it off?

I am waaay frustrated over this whole thing and really appreciate any and all words of advice. Thank you in advance for your time/pearls of wisdom.

You should be able to use the factory shark fin antenna. You just need one of these...
