Avic-120BT in 4Runner

Here's the Avic installed. Took it with the iPhone. Have two VAIS antennas inbound, one male/one female (SFA12F and SFA12M). Will follow up with the one that worked.

There is no jack per se like "video in"video out" jacks. It's hardwired thru connectors.It's a connector that attaches to the camera itself in the back liftgate and is wired thru the connector that attaches to the mirror or Nav. You will have to read the wiring diagrams to pin it out and find which wire color is what.
Nobody that I know of has done it.Let us know if you do.

No , you can't put a OEM nav in a SR5. It's not wired for it.

Thanks harper7.I almost offered to that product.Give me some advice that what gps system I should install on my sr5 since I could't afford to buy limited.I do want gps/backup camera/audio system all together.Some one advised me Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD but when I read the reviews for that product,they didn't like GPS system which was not as good as actual GPS.That is what they said.

Is anyone having an issue with their TYTO-01? I'm getting this weird sound shifting issue. When I'm playing with the fader the front and back will switch or just cut out. I've found it mentioned on a few other forums.Very strange and I've triple checked the wiring....

Edit: Looks like it might be a faulty unit. There are sending me a new one.

I've searched high and low on the internet and have canvassed this forum for days searching for a few answers and haven't been lucky - so here goes:

I just had a Pioneer AVIC-120BT installed in my TE today. It has the Pioneer XM module with it. Good news, nearly everything works great (bluetooth/ipod/radio/navigation), bad news - XM works for about 6" then breaks up. It's horrible. My good friends at Best Buy mounted the XM and GPS antenna above the head unit. I had asked them to figure out a way to use the factory shark fin but that was impossible, so I am told. The GPS seems to work with no problem. I am philosophically opposed to having a shark fin with no purpose on the truck! So...
1) Has ANYONE been able to use the shark fin antenna with the aftermarket Pioneer container, if so, how?
2) If you haven't been able to use that - where are you putting your antenna? I'm in Las Vegas so I'm not exactly off the beaten path for the satellites - nonetheless, I get no reception.
3) If you mounted your antennas outside the interior, did anybody fully removed the shark fin (SeattleMike, I know you pulled it off and put it back on)? What'd you fill the likely hole with? How do you get it off?

I am waaay frustrated over this whole thing and really appreciate any and all words of advice. Thank you in advance for your time/pearls of wisdom.

The GPS antenna is actually under the dash, I believe.

As for the removal process...I knew I should have been taking pictures of the whole thing but :happens:

There are two ways to get the sharkfin open... the hard way is to remove the interior pieces from the bottom up to get the headliner out like the manual says and the easy way is to do the following:

1. Open the lift gate and locate the 3 push tabs holding the headliner in place in the back.
2. Using a flat blade, slid in between the tab edge and the headliner, pop out the tabs carefully so you can reuse them.
3. Gently pull the headliner away from the roof and disconnect the wire that lead to the sharkfin
4. Locate the nut that secures the shark fin assembly to the roof and, using a crescent wrench, loosen the nut and spin it off the assembly.
5. From inside, press in on the two retaining tabs that hold the tube in place and push the assembly up and out of the roof.
6. Remove screws from bottom of assembly.

Now, once the actual fin is off you will see the board holding the XM antenna and it should have two spots open that are reserved for the safety connect (not available on the TE) and probably the bluetooth antenna used by the non-Nav units. I don't know if you can swap them out but I was thinking of taking the Sirius one from my PT apart to compare the two. I can't see the advantage in XM making two different radio receiver chips for OEM and aftermarket sales but stranger things have happened. At the very least you could run fresh wire along the same trace as the stock and make the sharkfin functional with the aftermarket HU.

You will also see two holes in the roof, a square one for the threaded post and a small one for the locater pin. Good luck patching that up.

Shark Fin Adaptor for XM is...

I finally got around to getting the adaptor installed on the stereo. It turns out the VAIS Technology SFA-12F fits perfectly. So, no need to hack on the shark fin to get it to work - worked like a champ with a $69 adaptor. Worth it, in my opinion, not to have an extra fixture on the roof. The AVIC-120BT GPS antenna is mounted behind the stereo on a large metal cross-member - no problems with reception. Thanks, SeattleMike, for the directions on the fin - thank goodness I didn't have to do anything - looks beyond the scope of my capability!

When replacing the stereo, does the wire harness for the OEM stereo have leads for all 8 speakers or is the split somewhere hidden underneath the dash somewhere? My audi has 5 speakers and the center channel is wired to the other speakers right at the harness behind the stereo.

I'm seriously considering adding a JBL MS-8 which time corrects and EQ's up to 8 channels, perfect for the 8 speakers in the car (I won't be adding a sub for space constraints) along with an aftermarket head unit.

SCOSCHE Adapter

Hello all.

I am as well trying to install the same HU with all the accessories recommended by some.

I would like to recommend the SCOSCHE adapter instead of the Metra 70-1761. The only place i found it at was:
SCOSCHE SMTA02PIO1603B Direct-Connection Harness (for 1987 & up Toyota to 2003 Pioneer 16-Pin connector)

It is basically plug and play.

Also, can some of the more knowledgeable people here give some guidance on how to integrate the Metra ASWC and the TYTO-01? I do not want to burn out the HU by making a wrong turn.

There are no knowledgeable installers in my area (I live in BFE), thus I have to DIY, so any help will thus help!

Also, the MOD to unlock the HU is a Must.
