AISIN Manual locking hubs

Attention to detail Rob. I would've been all over those like a fly on shit if he had the hubs with them....

Changed out the bearings, and kept them in the back of the truck incase shit got real bad like it did before.

That's a cool project. Not expensive either. So are you happy with the manual hubs now ? And basically you can keep them locked at all times, or unlocked and if you go ofroading, just lock them up before hitting the trails and put it in 4wd right ?

Did the 4cylinders come with manual hubs ??

I am happy with the hubs. I have them unlocked most of the time. If I have to pull a tractor out or go offroading, I will lock them up and I might keep them locked up for a couple of days. It all depends on how I am feeling.

Manual hubs were the base option on the 4 cylinder tacos.

Great writeup!

A few questions:

Will they fit behind the center caps without the wheel spacer?

Some of the manual hub tacos came with abs. Do you know if the hubs, spindles, & axles would be a direct swap to maintain abs? I'm unsure if there's a difference between the connectors or number of teeth on the abs ring. I'm also unsure if the abs tacos come with aisin or warn locking hubs.

Also, I've noticed that there are other vehicles similar (& some not so similar) to the 3rd gen 4runner which came with locking hubs (i.e. fzj80, qx4, montero, montero sport, etc.) Anyone know of the interchangeability of the locking hub units on these?

Tacoma's that have manual hubs that have aluminum wheels have a hole cut out in their hub caps.

If you could (highly unlikely) find a Tacoma with abs and manual hubs, then yes, it would be a direct swap. None of the tacos came with warn hubs.

As for the interchangeability, I am not sure but I do know that they are not interchangeable with any other Toyota model.

Singtoe did you used the whole Axles from the Tacoma or just outer shaft? I have complete aftermarket Axles from the Tacoma I took the hubs from. I'd rather used the complete Axles if can instead of tearing apart the 4runner/Tacoma Axles to make 2 Axles to run with the manual hub. Any 411 is greatly appreciated.

So I can't use the complete Tacoma Axles? Is the inner tacoma Axles different from the 4runner Axles.

I believe you CAN. Let me dig up the post.

You need the spindle, hub locks, and outer cv joint (I used the whole cv half shaft because they were already together).

You will need a new bearing as the old on gets ruined taking the knuckle apart.

Base model Tacomas from 95.5 to 2004 has the aisin hub lockers.

Aisin Hub lockers are much stringer the the warn hubs.

You can get reman axles from NAPA (tacoma w/ manual hubs) for like $55 each.

The whole half-shaft will work. Go to NAPA, ask for a CV axle for a 95.5-04 Tacoma with manual hubs. Or if you have some good ones that came from the yard with those spindles/hubs, you're good.

Yes I have the complete (inner/outer) Axles from that same Tacoma. It's aftermarket and looks fairly new. The middle shaft between the inner/outer has a baby blue stickers with numbers on them.

Singtoe I have a questions. In one of your pictures you have the rear Copper missing. Did you not put on back in prior to install? Then when reading more done you have one with.
Here's the pictures

I got the first hub out with a puller I got from Took Liquidators by my house. Cost me $12. 1st one came out like a breeze. The 2nd one is giving me hell. Broke one arm, then returned for a new one. Then the new one started to snap bolts (4 total). Spooky even if I had my protective glasses. I think im going to get the $40 7ton puller you have.

Are you sure those shafts are aftermarket? I was under the impression that light blue stickers with numbers on them that cover the shafts are a sign that they are oem.

At the time I posted that I didn't know. Someone clarified it was OEM on my build thread.
