ajohnson's 85 build

I forget, are you running a body lift? If not, let me know how the clearance under the tunnel is. I don't wanna chop mine up if I don't have to.

No body lift. I'm hoping it clears, i will know for sure this evening when I install it. So far I have only widened the stock shifter location for the other sticks

After a long shitty day turning into a long shitty night of frustration and failure and everything that could possibly go wrong doing so, I called into work sick today to get 2 stubborn broken bolts out of the old t-case and finally get it seperated.

They are just mocked into place so I could get driveshaft measurements. And KidV, I need to clearance the tunnel for the rear shifter assembly.

Well now I kinda wish I didn't do triple sticks. But oh well hopefully I will like it when I close the tunnel back up. I searched for installed pics of the triple sticks but could not find any so I had no idea what I was getting into.

I tried to cut out as little as possible.

But as the cases got closer to their final position I ended up cutting out all of the tunnel above the rear shifter assembly and linkages.

I had to bend the crawl box shifter back to clear the tranny shifter.
4th gear, crawl box in high

And this sucks, holes are not lining up. You get what you pay for I reckon.

beautiful just plane beautiful!

you and I sir need to get together soon I'd love to check out the rig in person and see all the awesome goodies up close. Oh and I like crown royal to! lol

I was also going to let you know I work for a machine shop. The thinnest sheet metal I have is 14gauge just slightly thicker than 1/16" if you'd like to fab up a cover of some sorts to close off some area around your triple sticks.

I have a welder as well available to me.

:bounce:

We should meet up, I'm right up the highway on the Woodlawn exit off I-77

I might have to hit you up on fabbing a tunnel cover.

Thanks for the tunnel pics! How did the holes on the crossmember not line up? Is that the trailgear crossmember?

Your welcome, I took the pics just for you buddy.

Yes that is the Trail Gear crossmember. The holes for the transfer case mounts do not line up, the front set is about 1/8" too far forward, and the rear set is about 1/4"+ forward. The frame rail bolt slots have a little play but I will have to work on it to make it fit right.

I think I might be done ordering from TrailGear. At least fabbed stuff. I've installed two sets of sliders from them that had legs that were supposed to be prenotched and looked like they'd been notched freehand by a monkey with a hole saw, and now your crappy crossmember kinda continues that trend. That sucks.

Yea it sucks. Thats why they call Trail Gear the Walmart for offroaders. Oh well I will make it work I guess.

I snapped a pic of the center console put back into place.

Everything is now bolted in. I was able to loosen the t-case mounts and wiggle them enough to get them bolted to the crossmember. The driveline e-brake is bolted up and needs a section of cable spliced. I am so close now, I can't wait to drive this thing again :D

I got the 4xinnovations motor mounts put in today. I started on the driver side which was a minor PITA with the header right above it and a coolant hose below it.

It is a good damn thing I bought these new mounts. I had no idea the driver side mount was broken.

Looking up from the bottom, I had to bend those 2 tabs down on each mount as shown

Driver side done, old passenger side mount taken out

Of course the AC compressor had to be in the way on the passenger side

I don't use it anyway and there is no belt on it so 4 bolts and out it came

Today I flushed the radiator and put in some fresh Prestone coolant, Mobil 1 5w30 in the motor, and Lucas oil in the tranny, transfer cases, and differentials. Just gotta do a couple more small things one night this week. I am so excited to drive it again

I got the trans tunnel covered up temporarily, and tied up the rest of my wiring. The driveshafts should be in tomorrow or Thursday and then she will be ready for a little journey
