personally, if it was just to drive my stuff across country i would get a budget rental truck and pay the extra fees to have the truck left at the destination.
i'd wait for a 4runner but thats just me.

I've been waiting 10 years. I won't wait any longer.
Regarding a used 4runner, the small difference in mpg (15/20 versus 17/22), as insignificant as it seems, actually does matter to me. If it were all I cared about, I wouldn't have considered a T4R at all but there is something to be said for accessing my wilderness field sites and doing it with a somewhat modern efficiency.
I would bet "the problem" has more to do with the collapsing dollar. Trade will come to a halt within the next 2 years.

I got a chance to look at a 4Runner Limited last night. Styling is great. I like the more upright windshield and overall ergonomics. Surprisingly i was 2wd, which I didn't think was an option. Functionally, it doesn't work for me - at 6'4" there's just not enough adjustment in the driver's seat. The rear seat wasn't bad. The third row will be fine for those who don't plan to have anyone over the age of 8 back there for anything more than a ride around the block. My kids will outgrow this vehicle in 2-3 years, and I plan to keep my vehicles 5-6 years. Finally - I have to say - the comments about the drop in quality aren't too far off the mark. While technically the quality may be fine, the light feel and sound made by shutting the doors produces a tinny rattle. The hood was even worse.
I really wanted the 4Runner to work for me, but it won't.
oh and I guess that Subaru is the option for those people that don't like the "boxy look" -- sure is a lot more "rounded" car........
Well, I have to admit my wife bought a new OB 5 months ago. Comparing to the runner is apples and oranges. I will say it's a quality car for the money at a very good price, plus the AWD is top notch. I plan on upgrading my Taco to the new runner or maybe buy a used 4th gen. The dealers here in Denver are loaded with 08's from rental car companys. Should I stay away from these?
They range in mileage from 30 to 40k and seem to be in decent shape.
