There's no question it was their money. The treasury department seized it decades ago during the Iranian revolution.
So, if you're holding a huge chunk of their money, and they've agreed to give us back one of our spies, why not use it to make sure they do what they say they're going to do? We were going to give it back to them either way as part of the nuclear deal.
And the reason we're making deals with them is so we don't have to send troops over there to die fighting them. I hear people all the time say it would be worth it, but is it worth YOUR life, or your kid's lives, or just someone else?
no, if its their money, return it. like I said, if its theirs already, we have no hold over it. if we intend to give it back already, it is no longer a bargaining chip.
on that same token, if they are our allies(I don't believe they are) they should be returning our people without question, or payment. and foremost, if they are our "friends", they should not be holding our people to begin with.
this entire situation is ****ed.
that sounds very much like negotiating with terrorists to me.
