Amusing FB chat about the 4Runner..

So this is some guy I knew a long time ago while he was still in the Air Force. He's a wisea^% and I thought he was just busting my chops at first. Take a look at the dialogue between us. This is all in response to a pic of my truck that I uploaded..

I consider myself a pretty level headed guy. I did a lot of research prior to buying the 4Runner. I, in no way think it is the end all be all of trucks and off-roading, nor do I claim to know everything (more like next to nothing :biggrin2 about these trucks. But I do think it has advantages that others don't.

Anyways...enjoy =) It's childish, but I tried to have a half-way intelligent conversation about it with him..

First off, that dude would be off my friends list. There are two types of miserable people I'll put up with: family and coworkers. Even then, I'll minimize my exposure to them because I don't need or want negative people in my life. If a "friend" can't hold his tongue or just say something nice, he isn't a friend at all, IMO. I have a friend that just bought a new Focus. It is about the last car I'd ever consider buying, but I found nice things to say about it because I'm not a jerk.

Second, have him come out wheeling with you. Ask him to show you the automatically disconnecting swaybars, locking rear differential, skid plates, and off-road control modes on his off-road beast. Send him some videos of the stock T4R on the Rubicon. Ask him where the videos of the stock Yukons and Suburbans are. He might be able to show you the best way to get 1/2 of an 5-7 year old AYSO* team in the back of his car. haha

People like that have no reasoning or common sense skills. Arguing with him is pretty much pointless. And do we honestly give to craps what other people think about the 4runner? It's purpose built, and has a loyal following. Ask him what a 10 year old tahoe is worth with 200kmi on it. Oh wait, there's been like 4 of those in history.

I had a very similar convo a few months ago, but it was some kid with an old jeep grand cherokee. Said my lifted 5th gen could not do anything offroad, and continued to bash on my truck and other toyotas in general. Long story short, we both went offroading, he got stuck, I peaced out lol. :naughty:

You need to understand - you are driving a 5TH Gen 4Runner. One of the most capable, durable, reliable, vehicles in the world. Any comparason between a Tahoo and 4Runner off-road is absurd. Looking at off road sites and competions you will see tons of 4Runner's and few if any, Tahoos.

I think what is really going on here is the age old 'Jealousy'. This guy saw your FB page and was green with jealousy - and that's where the insults start. You need to learn to ignore that kind of crap and simply enjoy your awesome 5Th Gen T4R!

I will say, don't shoot me, I had a friend with the older (97'-99' don't remember which) 2 door Z71 Tahoe and that thing was a beast! We took that thing through some tough trails, mud, sand, etc and nothing stopped it. Had the stock tires, no lift, no mods and it was impressive for stock. Now, skip forward a decade, the new Tahoes are a lot different. I saw the new Tahoe hybrid 4WD the other day, I would say there is about 4" of clearance from the ground to the front airdam, hard time clearing a parking curb with it!

Its funny you say that, I last replied tonight and said,

"Honestly if I wanted a Full-size SUV or Pick-up, maybe..maybe I'd consider a GM vehicle... I have owned 4 GM vehicles and I won't buy another in the near future. Maybe their quality has turned around,but I'm done with em' for the time bein...g.

But I didn't want a full-size SUV. I wanted a mid-size SUV with excellent off-road capability. And I'm not talking about dirt roads. You criticized me for buying an overly capable mid-size SUV and then you recommend a full-size with worse MPG, more $$$, and less off-road capabilities. Which is more impractical here.... I think you like arguing in circles and taking adolescent-like jabs, its good for your ego.

I looked at Jeep Grand Cherokees, Jeeps, Xterras, FJ Cruisers, Pathfinders, BMW X3/5s, LandRovers, LandCruisers.. All have notable mention and their own attributes for off-roading and combined on-road features.

The Trail Editon 4R has KDSS (automatic disconnecting swaybars from the Lexus models), locking rear differential, skid plates, Crawl Control, Multii-terrain select and more. I wouldn't even consider an off-road-like vehicle without skid plates or locking rear diff period...

TruckTrend listed the 4Runner as best mid-size SUV in its class in 2010. I'd give credit where credit is due, but so far you've done nothing but insist your opinion is correct without support and ridicule. I did my research, I bought an off-road vehicle with a reputation for durability, quality, resale value, availability and cost of parts.
