And the mods begins

Been doing some reading on this forum prior to my purchase and looking forward getting more useful info from you guys.

I will be picking up my SR5 with upgrade package this weekend. Was looking at a Limited but full time 4WD is not what I need.

What I want to do is to get an in-dash GPS/Radio/Ipod system installed on my new truck. I did some research on this forum and know that it is possible. What I want to know is what head units people got and how much was the total cost of doing this mod...

Also will be getting HID light for the truck but I can't choose between retrofit or just using the current headlights (worried about the glare)

Thanks.

I know alot of people are using the Pioneer AVIC series headunits. Some the x940bt and other models. That unit itself is on Amazon right now for $589 instead of the usual grand. Then if you really want spend the money, they have the z140BH which I believe is around $1500.

On top of that, you will need a dash kit, and the wiring harness/adapters? to keep functions such as steering wheel controls.

As far as a total? I have no idea. I'd recommend doing the install yourself. Headunits aren't hard to exchange, and audio shops will charge a premium to do that.

As far as the HIDs go. I say retrofits all the way. That way you aren't blinding every single people you pass. I hate it when I drive past some little ricer that has their 6K and 8K HIDs in the factory housing, and its blinding. Plus the projectors look bad ass. Plain and simple.

hID retro....

I'm sure it's posted all over different builds but few of them show how or where to get it done. So I pose the question here where, what stuff, and how might a guy go about doing a retrofit? Would kill for Ducmonster's with thevhalo kit too. But as I said his build thread is just here it is. I checked the place he had it done online( aacstyle) and they don't have kit or retrofit. SOoOoOoOo.... Any suggestions or point me in the right direction!?
As for topic of thread I kept factory deck and spent those clams on speakers and amps. JL audio all around. JL's cleansweep let me keep all functionality of factory dash but with a perfect cleaned processed signal for the amp. FWIW that's the direction I took. A possible alternative.

Duc's setup is mostly custom, and will run you somewhere in the 1500-2000+ range. I called AAC and had them send me a quote for a setup similar to Ducmonstas and that was around what I was looking at. However, if you like the dual Halos, AAC is the only place I found that can do it. Simply because their (oracle) Halos are LED and not CCFL so they can cut them to form the larger half circle around our high beams. You can't cut CCFL's.

Most people get their retro's done at Lightwerkz. Or get their parts from TRS and DIY it. Also some of the guys at TRS do retrofits on the side so it might be worth a call to them. I got Performance Auto Solutions to do mine and had a great experience. But shop around and see what you like.

If you are looking for a DIY thread, check out hbryanlopez's retrofit thread, and philseys thread.

Retrofit...

Thanks for the info Jango I would kill for a set like Duc but could never justify it to the wife! Shoot just spent ~2500 on stereo so might be awhile. I may check those 2sites you recommended. I'm kinda hanky bout the DIY method cause I know I'd make some tiny mistake or drip glue. And being OCD bout things like it would drive me bananas! Even a drip of glue...just knowing it was there would eat me up!

Yup checked lughtwerkz and requested a quote. Even asked about those rgb led halo kits so they color shift. Man hope it ain't no grand or something!

Last time I check with lightwerkz, the labor alone for our headlights was roughly $700-800

Plus, figure in $300-400 for parts, maybe more (not sure how much the red halos cost)

Yeah I had a sinking feeling it was gonna be a bit rich for my blood. At least for the foreseeable future lol. For that much I could so much other things more functional than just cosmetic. Shoot light bar (defiant or winter motorsports) and just blind em with aux lights! Lol.
