im going to do this mod soon and have a few questions.
am i going to have any problems passing inspection after this mod?
has anyone done this color matched silver?

I think color matched in silver would look good for sure!

Its easy for me to say it will pass no problem and it should, but i cant truly say 100%. also matched in silver it wont be as noticeable that it is not stock.

honestly my favorite thing about this mod is that it is very subtle. it doesnt have that 'modded' look. just looks clean.

I agree... If you think about it, a lot of new cars now come with the same blacked out housings from the factory. So I seriously doubt it wouldn't pass inspection...

kevinpt, ive heard VA has fairly strict inspection laws, everything must be SAE & DOT approved, of course i dont know for sure but even tho your lights will remain the stock ones, i would suspect that they might consider any mod to them illegal since you have altered them from the SAE/DOT approval, it may be worth a call to find out first. since you want to do silver it may go unnoticed. http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+reg+19VAC30-70-140

When i did my headlights i actually bought a used pair off ebay so I didn't have to rush doing them and so i could switch them out if i sold my truck. Well, the other day i came across my old stock lights and ended up blacking them out as well. I ended up doing them because i had finger prints inside the lens of the first pair and it has bugged me ever since. I couldn't heat them up and pull'em apart because i had used some other stuff to seal them back. Before i blacked out this pair i used a 3M kit to polish the outside of the lens. Just installed them yesterday and am very pleased. Very clean and new looking on the outside and no finger prints inside....lol

Ive had them buffed out before and it always comes back. should i just start over and black out a brand new set of headlights or can you buy the headlight len's seperate anywhere? OR does anyone have a sure way fix of getting rid of that haze ?

I don't wana put all this time into my old headlights if the plastic len's are just shot at this point. i mean they are 7 years old now

You need to seal them after you get the haze off

yeah they make special sealant for that plastic, it comes in some of the kits

awesome, thanks man. I'll look into getting a kit. I would just buy a blacked set of headlights but i can't find any I like for the 06 and up models. i don't like that halo crap, don't need it. The stock lights would be perfect blacked out.

Look on ebay. I found several sets a couple weeks ago that were basically factory lights with black instead of chrome. No halos. They were all around $200 for a set with free shipping.

Hell yeah! I looked everywhere for these a few months ago and they weren't listed anywhere. that's exactly what I'm looking for. Hopefully they will stay listed for another week or two till I can manage to burn another $200. xmas was a killer this year on the pocket !!
