What does the easy off do? Does it strip the fake chrome off?

Do i paint the half moon big clear corner piece?? or just the shiny aluminum?

I'm going to hold off on painting anything else until i hear back from someone thats done this.. have all clear and amber plastic off and just have one big piece of silver in my hand.. do i put the clear corner plasticpiece back on and paint it? or just paint shiny alumnium??

Paint it what ever way you want or think looks best. It's your ride you're the one gonna look at it everyday. Take a look at everyone elses see what you like and paint those parts. I painted the corner and all the fake chrome and removed the amber

Yeah, it basically eats the the chrome plating off the plastic. I am sure it will be fine to paint on top of the chrome. I just wanted to give the paint the best surface possible to stick to. I also talked to a buddy of mine that works at a body shop and he suggested using another product for sticking the lense back to the housing. I will post more info in another thread once I get it all done.

I was just afraid if i painted over the plastic piece that covers the blinker bulb that I may have an issue of people not being able to see my blinker. what i have done so far looks great.I'm debating on spraying over the blinker cover though.

Thanks again for all the info you provided on the mod. I see what everybody it talking about when they are referring to the 4th bolt.....lol.....what a PITA! After messing with the first one, on the driver's side, i realized it makes it a lot easy to just use the socket to get it started, then attach the ratchet. Because it is behind that little piece of metal, it is hard to get it started with just your bare fingers. Anyway, here are couple of quick pics. I will get some more pics later.

thought i'd chime in by saying that after a couple months, i'm starting to notice a little chrome shining through, mainly at the seams under/around the circles surrounding the lights. It's not enough to warrant re-doing yet but I will need to eventually. When I do, I'll use momo's suggestion of the Easy Off spray.

Anyone else experiencing some chrome coming back? I did sand them extensively and they're sealed tight so I'm not sure why it's happening anyway!

I hope not,, after the way I sealed mine back I will never get them apart again.

Luckily i will not have any issue with chrome showing through.....white maybe, but not chrome. If it does end up looking bad down the road I will just go back to my stock lights.....there is no way i will be able to get back in mine either.....lol

i havent noticed anything on mine yet. still look good. if so ill re-do them, i didnt seal mine that great after i put them back together. i havent [knock on wood] had any issues with water leaking in.

I did mine about 8 months ago and the Seattle weather has definitely made the water leak in...going to have to redo and reseal oh joy.

even with the rain here and the snow surprisingly i havent seen any condensation.

very tempting... dheeter's look amazing, only i don't want the actual lenses of the brights to be black. Does anyone have any pictures of all the different pieces the light folds out into once disassembled? Those would be very helpful as i could plan which parts I wanted to paint!

i plan on doing this sunday... i have read and reread all the posts on here. and im feeling pretty ballsy to do it. but i have one question

that weather strip in the quoted picture, the one that sticks out, kinda like a tab of sorts, does this go in the oven/attached to the silicone? or is this part separate and removed before hand. ive looked at it on my head lights and it looks like its part of the silicone... but i want to make sure.

you know that is a good question Trevloc i dont remember having to remove it before hand. i think it comes apart with the headlights post oven.

honestly, you cant ruin them in the oven unless you forget about them. just go slow take your time and youll be fine. just keep the goop warm it will make your life easier. and push them back together quickly and firmly so they dont leak.

Im about to try this tomorrow and was wondering, can I use Black Valspar Gloss interior/exterior spray paint? Seems pretty simple! Get the light out, heat it so it comes apart, paint, then put back together!
