Another External Tranny Thread, Lets put the question to rest

I've been on the shelf about this for a while. However the recently purchased 97 I'm currently working on has the original rad in it yet and I should do something.

I really like the truecool cooler and its ability to self regulate. The local trans shop has seen failures of the BM temp reg valve over the years.

It's 81 on Amazon for the 4589. And I must pull the front bumper to swap with a spare I have anyway.

Ok everyone, so here is what I think I am going to do, give me a yes or no on what you think. I am buying a brand new koyo to replace the factory one that's already there, and then I am going to buy what [MENTION=99144]19963.4lsr5[/MENTION] recommended, the tru cool LPD 4589. Now I also want to run an magnefine filter inline before the tru cool, but I am a bit confused on hose sizes. The tru cool kit I am buying on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Long-Tru-Cool-Automatic-Transmission-4589/dp/B005XZXBYE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1413464731&sr=8-1&keywords=true+cool+4589 says that the hose barbs are 11/32", so does that mean that the filter also needs to be that size? This is my first time doing this so bare with me if it is a dumb question. The only magnefine filter I can find on amazon is 3/8". And does a magnefine filter act as a traditional filter as well? or just for metal particles, so in other words do I need two inline filters magnefine and a traditional one for dirt and non metalic debris? I don't believe tru cool has a filter in it.

The magnefine is a traditional filter with a magnet on its inlet. I put one on the 96 on the line from trans to cooler. And it is 3/8"

I feel I should change my Sig to 97 instead of 96 since the 96 is totaled.........

Just curious, how often do you change that filter? Where do you get replacements?

I have only had it for about 8,000 miles, so I still am using the original B&M filter, which I believe is a rebadged Purolator. I plan to change it in another 20,000 or so.

I have the summit house brand remote trans filter on the CJ7. I change it every couple years since it doesn't got many miles on it a year.

I changed my radiator out a few weeks ago. The truck, just purchased a couple of months ago, is a little over 100,000 miles, '99. I plan to do the bypass in a few weeks.
The images are of the fitting where it screws into the rad and the threaded part of the cooler. I have seen a pic where these parts were corroded. Mine looked fine, though the top of the rad was turning that brownish color. I guess I replaced a good radiator but I am fine with that. Something else baselined that I will not have to worry about for a while.

Milkshake is due to a corrosion failure inside the radiator that allows two liquids to mix, doesn't really matter if towing or not. More of an age thing.

B&M 70264 kit is only about $75 or less and can be installed at home. A good shop would probably do it for $150 or less but I'm just guessing.

No reason not to do it given cheap price. On my 97 I did new Koyo radiator and bypassed cooler.

Thanks bro a ton! So that 75 dollars will cover everything right? Will I have to do a flush? Half asleep sorry if my questions are dumb. I actually believe my radiator is original too but it seems to be good. Not sure if it's aftermarket, I have to look. When I did my timing belt all the stuff was crap/no brand name maybe the 200 dollar kit from autozone.

I just ordered mine from Amazon plus a new OES antenna mast.

I thought I could order the cooler from Summit or Jegs. But no. It turns out that "True Cool" is a brand name from Long Manufacturing Division of Dana Corp. I like Dana-Spicer..............it's all good.

i recommend the trucool 4544. LPD. 20,000 btu rating, Thin plate so it is thinner > more flexibility re mounting locations.

comes with hoses, hose clamps, zip mounts, corner pads, brackets for hard mounting. Mine's zip mounted with the pads on the AC condenser and it is centered on the fan. Gets excellent air draw. I recommend this one, the 4544 (not 4454).
