Another New guy question

Just for a general idea i paid 14,000 for my 04` v8 sr5 with 55,000 miles.

And I paid 16,000 for my '04 V8 Limited with 63,000.

$20,000 for an '06 with 95,000 miles? I paid $19,900 for my '08 with 50,000 miles.

Jedi and others, re price.....bear in mind that I am primarily focused on finding a 4WD Limited model, if I can, they are scarce. That being said, I agree that the Carmax prices seem high.

The research I have done indicates that (using 2006 model year and 50,000miles) Limiteds are +/- $3300 higher than SR5s. Does this seem about right? I used Edmunds as a price indicator.

I would appreciate thoughts on the value Toyota certified program. Also, anyone had experience with the extent to which their prices are negotiable?

The $3300 price diff between pre-owned Limiteds and SR5s seems about right considering that it is about 3x that on brand new models. I'm assuming the Sport Edition is in the middle.

Have you considered the Sport Edition model? Was there something specific in the Limited you are seeking? Asking because I was fortunate to find a Sport Ed. model with sunroof, leather, and JBL audio...they are out there, but seem to be rare.

Edmunds is a good gauge for pricing. Compare with NADA and Kelly Blue Book and you can probably find an average.

Not familiar with Toyota's certification program, but I know with other manufacturers, a "certified pre-owned" comes with an extended warranty. On a 4Runner, not sure that is necessary since the reliability ratings are so high. We bought a 2006 Audi A4 Quattro with 4,000 miles on it. It was "certified pre-owned" which meant the warranty was extended to 100K miles! Being an Audi, I wanted that warranty since the Audi reliability ratings on the turbo charger were dismal after 70K miles.

I’ve always been leery about low mile cars at dealers simply due to that fact of who owned it before. Was it a lease, or a totally dumbass? I’d rather have a newer high-mile and let someone else take the $loss then get an older lower mile and pay market price. My 2 cents

I did not have a good experience at CarMax, they are a rip-off

So I bought from a Toyota dealer my 06 sport 2wd with 15000 miles last year for 21,999 and that is for a certified vehicle witch mean warranty to 100,000 miles baby.

the milage way to high it was a rental car most likly.

if you buy from car max make sure the tags are up to date and do not buy there extended warranty ask to see what maintance they have done on the car and get it in writing.

I just paid $20,990 for a 2008 SR5 V6 with 39K miles. Toyota Certified for 7/100. Lots of good deals out there right now.

cg...that is a good price, have not seen a 4WD that good.

Have been looking at Toyota Certified, first one I test drove, an '06 Sport 4WD, had some clunking in the 5 to 30 mph speed range. It was set in 4H when I got in, I reset it to 2H, and noticed the clunk-clunk-clunk as I drove away, I stopped, cycled through settings and back to 2H, drove on around the block, no joy. I am certain the 4WD was not working, my last 5 vehicles were all 4WD so I am generally savvy on 4WD, my guess is that the 4WD did not entirely disengage, thoughts on this?

So, still looking, BTW, I was the only customer on a bright, sunny afternoon.

Just a quick post to say THANKS to those who helped, either by their response to this post or by their advice on other posts I found via the search engine.

I bought a plain vanilla 2007 SR5, 4x4, 50k miles. Not in Certified program, but exceptionally clean, 1 owner, full service record, new tires. $20k

I just bought a 06 with 50,000mi for $17,500. Very clean. I could have found cheaper but I had to have 3rd row seats(rare, rare car).
