Bumper update. It's almost complete. We still have to finish the filler plate, and paint, that's about it........

It's coming along nicely. I don't know if I'll ever finish mine!

It's screaming for a matched front winch bumper!

Wow, Patco threw down some nice welds. You sould just have that bumper powder coated clear to show off the welds.
Really a work of art.
 
Update....... Just completed the filler plate. It's now complete minus the paint and mounting the shackles.

Very nice work. I gotta ask, why no receiver for a hitch? Even for someone who doesn't tow regularly, it's convenient to have.
 
To run a 255/85 underneath there's almost no room to run a hitch. Plus this is a second vehicle for me. I've got a full size diesel for any towing needs. I bought the truck without a hitch and after 3 years I haven't needed one, so we didn't spend the time installing one in the bumper.

They are convenient, but I'd rather be able to run a full size spare underneath vs tow a small trailer.
 
Best fill plate I have seen!!!! Gives your bumper an amazing finished look!!!! Very impressive set up! I wish the companies that manufacture these would learn from your example!!

How do you go about designing this?... Did you use a specific program?..

Who did the exact plasma cutting for you?

. . . May not be on the forum anymore so I'm hoping for the best
 
Designed the old fashioned way. Tape measure! I went to my local metal supply and gave them a rough sketch with the width, depth and length of the break on each end. The holes were done with a hole punch and dimple die. Both of those are hand tools you can buy pretty cheap. You have to use a hole punch. You can't use a hole saw. The hole saw doesn't leave a nice enough hole for the dimple die to center on. Eastwood has a combo punch and die

Punch and Flaring Die 1.5 Inch
 
To cut the hole around the rear striker just transfer drill the holes from the body through the filler panel then line the striker up with the holes you drilled and the holes in the strike plate. Then trace around it. You need to leave about a 1/2 gap between the striker and filler panel. Remember the striker is mounted to the body. Your filler and bumper are frame mounted so they don't move together when wheeling. I can see small spots where my hatch has hit the filler plate.

Hi Folks.
I just fell onto this thread as I was searching for examples of DIY bumpers and I have to say.... I love it....

Are there any plans for this???

Also, I wanna build a front winch bumper too...
Does anyone know of any that have been DIY'd???
