Antenna mast

Hi All,

I need to replace the antenna mast on my 1997 T4R - but I don't see how to remove the inner fender liner! I took out the screws but there are also some other fasteners holding it in place. How does one remove those fasteners without breaking things???

I have to get at the antenna motor account when I pulled out the old mast none of the plastic toothed piece came out.

Thanks!

Got the inner fender off by hacking and cutting those stupid plastic things off!

However...I need a new mounting bracket for the antenna motor! The old one was almost broken through from metal fatigue and the tab fell right off when I pulled the assembly out.

Anyone have a part number or source for a new mounting bracket??

Thanks!

Ted

I replaced those plastic pieces of junk with plastic screws from Lowe's so I could get back there again.

A 1997 may be different but on my 2001, I think the bracket was spot welded to the frame. You may have a harder job than intended. You might take a quick trip to a local junkyard. most of the ones I found already had the fender removed so you could easily see if it is welded and maybe grab a replacement

Thanks Ghost....what size plastic screws did you use?

On my 1997 the bracket is bolted to the antenna motor and then bolted to a bracket welded on the inside of the fender. The bracket broke right at the bolt hole that goes to the inside of the fender.

No part number on it or in my copy of the FSM.

My next door neighbor just now welded the antenna motor support bracket back together so I'll try installing everything tomorrow.

I tried to be neat getting my antenna out when mine went bad.
That was wrong!
I ended up doing things like the threads here said to do it.
There's no way to save those plastic rivet fasteners that go on the inner fender liner when taking the liner out. I got those replacement rivets from napa.

Replacement completed! The welding of the bracket by my neighbor worked just fine and the new mast assembly went right in. There is an error in the FDM - it says the teeth must face the rear of the truck, but that is wrong. The teeth need to be towards the front.

Now I need to get some new plastic bolts to replace the ones I hacked off...

Thanks Durk! Just what I was looking for....I'll get to a local dealer soon and finish putting everything back together.

It is nice to have the power antenna working again....even though I usually don't have it on while driving. I'd just as soon enjoy a little quiet and watch for the other drivers :)
