Anti Theft Ideas

My 4runner has been broken into twice, and stolen once (just two weeks ago!). Now that i got it back, i want to make sure it does not happen again. I am just curious what people on here have done to their rigs to make them untouchable. I am considering putting on a fuel shut off valve, kill switch and/or brake line lock along with an aftermarket alarm system. Any feedeback would be great.

A simple hidden kill switch is cheap and easy. If you can't start it you can't steal it.
Stick it inline with the fuel pump power wire.

You could get an aftermarket, with a gps tracker & other nic-nacs. Or, you could get jumper cables, hook them onto your battery, then to your hood. custom 12v shock alarm, just carry rubber gloves with you.

I have been thinking about lo-jack. It's about $600 but the police can track it. For a vehicle that we dump tons of money into I think it's worth it, especially when an insurance company is going to give me 3k for a vehicle that I have 7-8k in to.

I'm not too worried about it getting broken in to. When it does get broken in to I'll take the check from the insurance company for all the "stuff" that got stolen out of it :D

Even with a kill switch, they could still take a wire from the battery to the starter, so that is why i was thinking fuel shut off. Or are you saying have a kill switch to my fuel pump?

dont do a brake lock because if they do manage to get in and start it up they will rev the ever loving snot out of the engine trying to get it to move and then youll really be mad!

if you go that route then you want to tap into the fuel pump itself and that can be done via the trap door under the rear passenger seat. you wont have to open the tank but there are two wires right on top of the fuel pump unit one is ground and one is 12v feed line you can make a kill swich for ether wires i recommend a grounding switch. then move the switch to a hidden are and hide the wires real good.
they can hotwire all they want in the dash and engine bay the wont get fuel unless the find that switch or open the trap door and ground the wire.

I once saw an interesting idea on a motorcycle, but I think the police may not go along--the guy had a metal skewer-like rod pointed vertically just below the seat...spring-loaded! Any potential thief won't be sitting down for a looong time--ouch!!! Better have a foolproof lockout on it, though--it would suck to explain why YOU have a nasty wound from your own creativity.

What i have on mine is this key looking thing that if you pull it out, even if you have the keys to it you can't start the vehicle I'm not sure what its called but idk how helpful that would be if they could just wire around it or whatnot.

I've heard of people hooking up a cell phone somehow..so everytime the door opens it dials your cell and once u see that number grab your tool of choice n start chasing them bastids

This. Also get a removable steering wheel and locking column cap. If they can't steer it they can't steal it.

GARAGE.
It's anti: theft, rain, wind, snow, salt, hurricane....

So far.
It's the single best thing you can provide your vehicle, COVERAGE, somesay  HAHA

**EDIT** buying a removable steering wheel sounds pretty good too, if youre forced to park on the street in an unfortunate part of town. or, I like the "cans on the ground" ploy even better. Protect your shít, or be ready to part with it.

Good choice, nothing like BEAST! My neighbours have a giant female rotty, I've never seen her, only heard her. I'll be damned if she doesn't sound like Cujo's sister
