Not much I can say that hasn't already been said hundreds of times. I am a new T4R member and first time owner. Wanted to get some ideas from other build threads and I spent two hours last night going start to finish on your build. My head nearly exploded!

I am looking to do something similar to your original cargo storage area that levels out the back with the reclined 2nd row. Do you have some blue-prints or something that would help me get started?

I built the storage area on the fly, a few drawings to get my idea straight and then went at it- so, no blueprints.

I do have the dimensions for the frame of the box to get you started though:


Side panels- 2-1/2" x 38"

Front panel- 2-1/2" x 40-3/8"

Back panel- 3- 1/2" x 39-5/8"

From there you can customize it however you like! Any questions feel free to PM me.

I think I am going to install it so its a sliding drawer instead of the top lift box so I can access it easily when the back is full of other gear.
 
Well I did it now.

Ever since I built the latest version of my storage box/sleeping platform I have been tweaking the cargo area to fit my needs.

With the Jetboil it has become the norm for the kids to have hot chocolate, instant soup, or even instant oatmeal at any time. Just the other day we went bike riding on a chilly day and they asked me for some hot chocolate. One day they will find out that this kinda stuff just isn't normal- haha!



Being the coffee fanatic that I am, I also have instant coffee (ugh), along with grinds and a Jetboil Java Press on board for coffee in an "emergency", haha! Water is stored in 2 Nalgene containers in the cooler.

Anyway- cleanup is always a problem with the girls. I like things neat and clutter free, so YES- I really did mount a paper towel holder in the back. And it works great!

I also included some pics of how I'm rolling back there currently- I haven't posted any of these- been slacking!




This is what I purchased at Home Depot- the towel holder was $4, lol.











My "power center"- A/C (under yellow cover) is connected to a 1000w inverter, and the 12V outlet is straight to the battery via 8 ga wire.





YES! Another cupholder for my "always there" coffee mug. Works great while sleeping back there. Next to the fire extinguisher is an Emergency Bivvy Sack because you never know...







Jetboil = Awesome




Sleeping bag and pillow stay behind the cooler.




Cutting board tucked out of the way (it pops right out for use), and a "secret" knife under the slide.










Multitool, flashlight, bottle opener and a clip to hold whatever. The slide also locks fully open, or fully closed now.






I keep a lighter in here.




This Otterbox is great for keeping stuff organized. It fits on the wheelwell perfectly, along with a tire gauge, with some plastic wedges I used.

















and...That's about it- Happy Modding!

Correct. Love being the first one sipping coffee in the morning when camping thanks to how fast they boil the water. I even keep a few freeze dried meals around so if it's pouring rain I can just boil up some water and eat standing under the lift gate. One thing to note is that water pools up on the lift gate while it's open and can surprise you when you close it. Don't ask how I know this.
 
My excitement for finally seeing another T4R member got the best of me .. :frisky:

Wow that paper towel holder is um... Kinda ghetto Jeff. Personally I just keep a pack of wet wipes in the door pocket. As for the coffee, a few packets of sbux Via gets me through.

I hope the dude that invented the Jetboil is filthy rich because that thing is pure awesomeness.

I saw you in the rearview and I thought- "Man! That dude is flying!"

That blue is beautiful BTW, very nice.

Those pics do, but fortunately for us they have not had any cameras south-bound for some time. I commute that route Mon-Fri and only ever see them near white marsh north-bound (Not that I speed..)

My wallet is itching to open up for my big blue. However, I need to continue to force myself to get through Christmas and then BIG things to come.
 
I really like this idea and am thinking of trying it. Did you notice any considerable difference or increase in noise from the back after you removed those extra layers/padding? Or does the storage unit and its contents dampen the sound just as well?
