Don't tell me. You're making it like one of those cars we had as kids where all the body parts fly off in pieces when it hits a wall? THAT WOULD BE SO AWESOME!!!! :bravo:

Lol- [MENTION=112177]4RnR Grl[/MENTION] 's truck is already like that!

She goes over a ledge and it pops her rear bumper side off and it's just flapping around there. Next rock she scrapes over it pops right back into place like nothing ever happened.

I watched this scenario play out at least 3 different times, lol.

My Duratracs (265's E range) have 80,000 miles on them and they still have lots of tread left! That's remarkable to me. They performed great at the Cove a few weeks back, with plenty of traction. Overall, these tires have been wonderful. Great traction in all conditions; dry, wet, snow, mud, dirt, gravel- they just ate it up with no issue at all.








So...why am I replacing them? Well, they have gotten to a point where they just cannot be balanced properly. There are hunks of tread missing from crawling over sharp rocks. They are also LOUD!!! The edge of the tread is now scalloped. The truck literally shakes and surges from side to side when creeping along at idle. 80,000 miles though- I'm not complaining! If I didn't have an hour drive each way to work they would still be on there, but I just couldn't take it anymore. It was honestly hard to hold a conversation while on the highway due to the noise, lol.

These ride really nice- very quiet and smooth. I did some fender-liner trimming as expected and I think I got rid of the rub...

Don't they look great?! My buddy Brad at work even mounted the tires so the white lettering is centered over the valve stem on all the wheels.:thumb:

Hopefully these will get me past 200,000!
 
That's a good price! Thanks for the heads up since I'm starting to stockpile suspension and tires for the day the stockers wear out. But if you need them shipped, like me, it's nearly identical to Discount Tire Direct right now. Tire Rack charges shipping and DTD doesn't.

If you buy 5, Tire Rack wins, hands down, even with shipping.

They look great!!!!

The only rubbing I have is at full lock in reverse on the body mount (both sides). Other than that, nadda. I might do a BMC at some point... but I do not have the skills to do that. I do however know a really great welder (John).:hail:
 
Thanks for the heads up on the tires. If I'm willing to make a trip to DE, I can get 275s for my 4th gen for $169 a tire!! I asked DTD if they'd match, and they would not since tire rack didn't ship to the door...I found out that DTD has black Friday sales starting the 21st though, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
 
Very interesting. I like the LED strip lighting idea, with phone jack connections. I'd like to see how you connected it to power.

I rewired that with a waterproof Deutsch connector (cut from a Rigid LED harness) and a standard 12V plug. I now run the awning on the passenger side and utilize the factory cargo area outlet- which I have wired hot all the time.

The phone-jack setup got wet and melted, lol.:redface:

I was wondering about the weatherproofness of that. I also wondered if those wires would be a large enough gauge to handle the lights.

That all sounds good, but I'm no electrician. I'm asking more about how to connect to the fuse box. This is my first Toyota & also I haven't pulled the top off the box. Is it, for lack of terms, as simple as plug & play, as long as the fuse is the right size. There are usually extra spaces, maybe even some spares in most fuse boxes. I haven't done a search yet, is there a thread for adding/wiring to the fuse box?
 
One of the advantages to having a beat up old bumper is that I get freedom to experiment without worry of expensive mistakes! So...I took a dremel to my old bumper.

All the areas that normally get scraped up offroad are now GONE, but I left the factory brackets to secure the bumper. When I get a chance I'll install this one and see if I need to fab support brackets and what else I need to modify, like the fender liners and the aluminum piece behind the bumper. If I like it on the truck I'll do it for real! :fear:

What do you guys think? (These cuts are still rough and raw, lol)

The sensors have a dash switch to turn them off. That's another project- honestly I'm on the fence about them. I may just put all 4 on that valence piece on the bumper. I've got some testing to do first. The system won't let me install just 2, it shows an error light on the display. We shall see-

I've been lerkin on FJs around town, and only some have sensors. The ones that do, appear to be only just 2 that I can see. I'm not sure if they are oem, if anyone could make it work in a 4r, it's you! (I know you already drilled 4 in your valance :( )
 
Congrats on the new shoes. Having the letters on the inside would gain you 5 HP and the kids won't laugh at you. :clap2:
