Me and Mrs. C9 are signed up. We'll be arriving Friday. We're signed up to tent camp, didn't pick a spot yet. We've never been to Gilmer before, not sure where the designated old fart campsite is....

Thinking about it just not sure I could do more than Sat. Although not a long drive it's a haul for Friday night then wheel and drive back Sat night. Maybe though. Anyone been there before, I wouldn't mind going pre jamboree weekend?
 
That is the last week of the semester, so I might be able to leave here on Thursday night. Would be a ton of fun to wheel with people that actually know what they're doing. I'll look into it more tomorrow. :car::rockon:
 
out of curiosity, what's the minimum sort of vehicle you would need to hit the trails? i know some jambo's you only need 4wd to hit the beginner trails. i'd be interested in going but currently my limited is pretty stock and want to understand if i'd be going just to sit around and hang out or if i'd be able to go on some easy trails. thanks

I followed a new stock Landcruiser through most of the park. Your vehicle can cover I would guess over 1/2 of the park.

It is actually a great park for stock to slightly modded.

Can you make it to Ouray any other time? I basically live there 7/1-10/1. Live most of the rest of the year in Utah and western Colorado.

I stay away from Texas. Most Texas plates I see are inverted, in ditches.

I can't make it out to Ouray every year, went out there last year also went to Moab, its too expensive coming from Missouri. This will most likely be the last big wheeling trip for me, might be relocating to either NYC or LA (won't be taking my 4runner to either locations) if everything works out school wise.

Booooooo! Haha. Gonna miss ya when you move brother. What do you mean one 5th gen. You had 2 rolling with ya at the MO4WD jamboree haha.
 
You need to take the runner to LA if you head that way. Some really great wheeling in that part of the country. Wish I could make this trip man. We need to hit SMORR or Moonlight before you move! Oh yeah if the runner doesn't go with ya I'm pulling parts haha.
 
If anyone that is going wants a practically new budbuilt crossmember, I'll take $75 for it. This is something I don't want to ship, but I need it gone. Let me know.
 
I made a last minute snap decision to go on Wednesday as I was driving home for a 10 day break. I called my retired dad who lives about 40 miles SW of there, picked him up around 2pm Thursday, and away we went. I planned to do all easy trails on Friday and if I felt good about it maybe try a couple of level 2's on Saturday.

We got signed in and were told there would be a night fun run at sunset that evening. Nothing difficult. All easy trials. Um, yeah... It started out on a level 1 and we spent the better part of an hour running what was actually a level 2 trail, so there went that plan! :wow:

Ultimately by the end of our trip Saturday afternoon we had tried and finished a couple of level 3 trails, and I was really happy with how the 4R ran them. A couple of small knocks on my Nfabs, but nothing that hurt. Just enough to tell me if I want to continue doing these trips I need to switch to sliders. We really had a good time.

I met Viera on Saturday while we were lining up for the group photo. Great guy, and yes I am still interested in what we discussed. Another 2014 Trail showed up on Saturday with the dealer plates still on it. He is new member yota-something (I hate short term memory loss and I apologize for not remembering :crazy: ). Welcome to the forum. I missed seeing Miguelon while we were there, which is a real shame . I was looking forward to crawling around his new Shrockworks bumper and picking his brain. Here are a couple of the shorter videos I shot. My local cable provider really chokes down our upload speeds, so I can't currently upload any longer ones. I like watching the suspension work, so there is less vehicle and more tire in these videos.
