Any Alternatives to These Crazy Expensive Toyota Parts?

I am working on my friends 2002 Limited. She only had it for two months when she hit a deer. Most of the impact was absorbed by the left front of the vehicle. The bumper bar, the lower facia and the grill are destroyed. The fender is ok, and the bumper brackets and reinforcing bar are ok. Even the bumper filler section at the top of the bumper escaped damage. The metal reinforcing structure inside the the filler/extension and its two end pieces needs to be replaced, due to rust and broken threaded studs. The alarming thing is that I can get the metal sections for less than I can get the fasteners. There are six white clips that snap into rectangular holes on the reinforcing filler and eight press-in fasteners that hold the bumper extension cover to the metal reinforcing core. The retail price on the white fasteners is around $15 each. I need six of those Who are the fasteners that connects the trailing edge of the filler cover to the metal reinforcing core how about seven dollars each and I need eight of those. That’s like $125 for some flimsyLittle bits of plastic. Does anybody know of any alternatives?

For plastic fasteners and small parts like that I usually try putting the part number into ebay and amazon and see what comes up

Good idea. Unfortunately when I do that I just get a lot of Toyota dealers who are selling the part for the regular retail price. I even put it into Amazon and found sellers who are selling it at a markup from retail!

Another good idea. My local salvage yard had two 3rd gen 4runners last fall. Plus, he had a Limted edition with a sport hood and the big fender flares that I had my eye on.

There really seems to be a very limited supply of third GEN parts in the wrecking yards right now. Last fall the stuff was everywhere. Now I can barely find any.I’m thinking that the wrecking yard business slowed down a lot because of Covid.

Do you have enough of the clips to re-use and hold everything in place? Most of the time they can be removed if you are very careful. You won't need all of them to get it back together if cost is an issue.

Grill clips, on the other hand... (I just got a whole new set of OEM grill clips)

Maybe you could check to see if these fasteners are used on any other Toyota models. Might be time-consuming, but then if you do end up going to a salvage yard, you may have more vehicles to choose from.

One of the members of this group from Florida did some picking for me a bunch of years ago.

In my area there are hardly any 3rd gens in the yards. And if they are it’s a 96 or 97 with over 300,000 miles and the drivers rear lower control arm rusted off. With nothing really usable.

I found out that I have the eight clips I need for the back edge. So I bit the bullet and ordered the white clips. I need six. The retail price is $14.79 per clip! I didn’t have any more ctime to chase those parts. toyotapartsdeal.com had them for $10.29. Thanks for your help.

And then there are two clips in the middle of the top row, and one attachment point in the middle of the lower row. How many different kinds of clips are there for holding the grill on?

For the Black CLips, I used 9mm generic push pins.

I haven't found any aftermarket replacement for the White Clips in the center.

You can try this guy - ASPCLIPS - ASP Clips – We stock thousands of different types of clips, rivets, screws, electrical terminals, light bulbs, nuts and bolts in our mobile warehouse units when we come to your place of business. - He used to supply our body shop and could get us an aftermarket version of almost any clip. It may not be worth it if you have to buy a 25ct bag of them though....

There are 7 clips for the grill, all the same. They just get brittle with age and break if you try to remove them, that's all.

There's just 1 kind of clip holding the 3rd gen Grille. Looks like 5 or 6 of them is needed.
