Any Danger in Bypassing the Clutch Switch?

Okay, So for a little bit now the 4runner has not wanted to start unless I press the Clutch Start Cancel Switch.

I know this is NOT how Toyota intended it.
I am suspecting the clutch switch (the one at the bottom of the pedal)

New one, PN 8452035010 is $47.80 +tax.

I read on another thread it's easy to bypass this switch and just not need the clutch to start the truck (Similar to using the CSC)

I'm just wondering if this will hurt the truck in the way it runs or have a negative impact on the transmission?

Any ideas? I don't want to bypass the switch at the cost of having to replace the transmission later on.

Or if you have an idea what else maybe causing please chime in and let me know.

I had the same problem. I bypassed the CSC switch almost 10 years ago. It is purely an electrical thing, no direct impact on the trans. With that said, you have to make sure you press the clutch in and / or put the trans in neutral when you start. If you dont, it will still crank. The starter has enough oomph to roll through the parking brake - trust me on that one... :doh:

Awesome!! Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty good about keeping her out of gear but I know it's gonna be one of those oh shoot (edit the oo for an i) moments, LOL.

Sorry for the noob question but I'm so loving My Runner, only had her a couple months so I'm excited! :happy:

As SparkEE said there are no negatives to this. In fact installing a similar mod like our factory switches is necessary to have a remote start on a manual. It can make for some comical moments if someone activates their starter, either in the car or with a remote when it is in gear.

Lol, I too have started my vehicle ('85 Corolla - doesn't have a CSC switch) when it was in gear and without the clutch; sure was surprised that it was able to over come the parking brake. The guy beside me in the parking lot gave me the: "what the hell was that?" look.

One reason I see for not doing it is if you have kids. I see this working the same way as the auto transmission not shifting into drive from park if you don't step on the brake.

I think it doubles as a "Kids safety feature".

You may have already looked into this, but check out the bracket that holds your clutch pedal in place and make sure its not cracked and warping when you engage the clutch. When I bought my 4runner, the PO told me I had to press the clutch engage button to start the truck. It turns out the bracket was broken so the pedal wasnt following its 'usual' path when engaging the clutch, and therefore wasnt properly hitting the clutch switch. When I replaced the bracket, the clutch switch problems went away.

Thanks for that one 4runjunkie. I had just replaced the bracket and everything was newly lined up and working correctly. even replaced the little rubber pads that depress the switches.
But it's been by-passed and everything is working fine now.

I (me myself) find the clutch safety switch pointless.
I park the truck in first gear. When I start the truck, I always put it in neutral to start and and leave it there for several seconds to warm up before I put it in gear. Leaving it in gear, and depressing clutch pedal to start and warm up is unnecessary pressure on system. After all I often end up reversing out of parking spot.

Ditch it!

I took mine out simply so I can use the starter alone to get me out of sticky situations on the trail. Broke a fuel line so it wouldnt fire up while I was on some nasty boulders: got it to a flat surface so I could fix it easily and not be in the way holding up traffic.

you had one on your 84 , my 85 doesn't have one, well maybe the PO took it out ,I dont know
