Any Issues running KM2's 285/75-17 on TE ?

Sorry Forum,
I tried a search for the answer but the server was having issues.
I'm looking at picking up a set of Goodyear KM2's size 285/75-17. My TE is getting OME 3" lift with LR UCA. I am running stock TE rims. Any issues with running 75's instead of 70's besides a possible BMC? The rim width sizes for both are 7.5 to 9" but I was surprised to see the 285/70 recommends a 8.5" and the 285/75's says 8".

Thanks :)

The 285/75/17's are a 33.9" diameter tire so you'll need a body mount chop and your gearing will be way off.Probably have to run 2 inch bump stop extenders in the rear like I have also as my fender rubbed the tires at full stuff but I have 8" rims with less backspace. I'm running 305/70/17's which are also a 33.9" diameter and I have had a BMC,regeared with 4:56's and BS extenders.

I was eying those 285/75/17's too as my next possible tires

I'm running 285/70-17's with the same OME 3" lift and LR UCA's. I had rubbing in the front and had to trim the fender well liners and have run into minor clearance problems at full lock and full compression. The passenger side front mud flap was torn off last summer in Colorado.

Harper has the goods on the 75's, which obviously require more clearance.

harper7 Do those 2 in BSs effect any of your down travel. I under the understanding you will lose a little up travel, but when one tire is stuffed and resting on the stop, will it prevent the other side from dropping any?

Also, is there any way to tub the rear fenders any more so it'll stuff up inside?

Is that an autohome? Extreme? How do you like it?

Its an Air Top Med size. I like it a lot. It's real fast to set up and breakdown. The only issue I see would be getting stuck camping during a snow storm. I don't think the struts would be strong enough to hold up a few inches of snow accumulation.

No, just up travel.
I don't know about tubbing them as that is usually associated with running a shorter axle and much wider tires and would be way too expensive. I was originally going to roll that inner fender lip up with a baseball bat as I've done that on a Camaro SS and a BMW I owned before to fit wider tires under it.

Here's some pics of travel testing the MT bump stop ext. install and to get an idea how much the 33.9's fill out the fender wells.

Preciate the pictures. That makes sense. I didn't think about have to run shorter axles for tubbing. I like the 33.9's! Look like a good fit, and they look like they tuck up nicely once you have the bumpstops in there to stop from tearing up tires and inner fenders.

Autohome "Air Top". :) The concern I have is snow accumulation at night while sleeping. The 4 struts that erect the top I don't think would hold up to much snow loading. Also high winds would be an issue with the winter hood do to its Velcro attachment points. Other than that It is comfortable and roomy inside. I'm 6' 1" and have plenty of room.

Question, have you managed to figure out how to store the tent with the winter hood attached without it hanging out? I cant for the life of me, though it says on the spec sheet you can. My only guess would be that you have to fold it up and tie it down with those elastic bungees along the bottom. Have you managed to work it out? Cheers

An interesting observation that might not be to you however Im going to share it. That is with an oversized tire like the one you have currently installed, are you seeing any rubbing on the tire itself? The tread in other words, has it began to wear off the rubber lining within the fender well?

The other thing I have observed is the rear seatbelt bolt. Now that my 285/70/17 tires have hit it on a few occasions the rubber lining stuff that was sprayed around it has come off making my tire potentiality prone to damage and the bolt to rust. Thoughts?

See your image for further clarification:

I haven't tried stowing the tent with the hood. From normal stowing of the tent the sides rub on themselves or parts of the top creating slight fabric abrasions. I didn't want to damage the lighter fabric of the hood. For short term storage it would probably be fine. It says you can stow it with the hood but it doesn't come with directions on how and its a lot of extra material to try to fit under the top. I'll do some experimenting and send you a PM.
