Any Mountain Bikers on Here?

Ah, glad i found this thread! I recently got into the mountain biking sport and love it! I was wondering how you all manage to keep your legs from completely tiring out at hour into a ride. I feel like my body is exhausting itself to quickly, which is most likely due to diet. What do you all eat?

I want to ride 2+ hours without my legs cramping up to the point of water breaks every 5 minutes...

Hydration is key. Not just during the ride but hours and even days before. Think recovery too, hydrate some more.

Meals the day or days before have a lot to do with energy too.

I almost bought that same bike, but I'm a Specialized guy so ya,

Nice ride! yeah I am a Trek guy, but mainly because I used to work at a Trek dealership so everything I bought was discounted. Now I just can not stay away

Decided to try a 29er craze...Loving it so far not enough to sell the 26ers though

This thread cracks me up (literally and figuratively) because drifffter33 just joined an MTB forum that I regular (socaltrailriders.org), and so I said hello to him. He asked if any of us were T4R folks, so then I came over here and joined on. This was only a couple of days ago! Now you gone all mountain bike on me!! Nice. Ride an '06 single-pivot Cannondale RUSH 1000 FS sled w/Lefty up front:

Actually looking to upgrade pretty soon, but I need a truck first (yeah, don't have a T4R yet, but am in the market hot and heavy at this point...).

That's a good looking Rush 1000. Looks familiar. ;)

I had the same fork and wheels on my Scalpel 1000 prior to upgrading to a carbon SL110 and Crossmax SLR wheelset from an '08 Team Replica Scalpel.

My wife and I also have matchin Trek Allants for city riding. I need to pick up a trailer sometime next spring because I have a little one on the way and I have to get him/her used to bikes ASAP.

^Thoughts on that hitch rack? Does it have the option for locking bikes to the rack?

I just got my 4Runner a few months ago and having been using my old Yakima trays for the roof. I like roof rack, but I really want to get a set in hitch rack so I can avoid taking the wheel on and off on my bikes.

I have looked into the Yakima and Saris ones, but have not seen any of the Thule racks. The Saris Cycle-On Pro is what I have been looking into. But it is around $340.

Mine does lock the bikes in place with a standard Thule cylinder. I had a roof rack on my GTI and the hitch is soooo much better. On and off in 2 minutes, super secure, and no height issues. I couldn't imagine regularly putting bikes on my T4R roof. I'll be installing a receiver on our Prius v when it arrives.

Just picked up a new Giant Talon 29er 2 last weekend. Trying to start to get into riding again. Have had it out on some paved trails this week and really like it. Can't wait to get it off road and on some real trails.

I am jonesing for spring, myself. I just scored a pair of Thule bikeracks for my load bars so I don't have to toss the bike in the back anymore, yay me!

Want dirt.

Check out Swagman as well. They are cheaper but still pretty sturdy. Had this one for about five years without any issue's. I bought a cable lock if I go to eat or leave unattended. Have a Yak on top of my X5 and only use it if Im doing a road ride.

That looks cold, Gerdo. We were sunny and 70 yesterday, and if I hadn't had to spend the morning getting my rig ready for Moab, I woulda been pedaling.

I'm a casual mountain biker with a Giant Yukon. I like to head out on a trail or woods road for a couple hours of exploring. Weather is variable, so I have saddle bags to carry extra clothes, snacks, fluids, etc.

I was planning on getting a rack for the top of the T4R, but after looking at the pics here, inside would be better.

Older GT I-Drive Expert

I've been biking for many years. Lucky enough to bike Mission Gorge CA, Moab UT, Grand Canyon AZ, Walker Ranch CO, several places in Maryland and now locally at Marl Ravine and Freedom Park in VA. I had an sweet Stumpjumper that was the bomb but I killed it. This one is nice with Rock Shox and disc brakes and my old boss gave it to me!:reddance:

I replaced my entire drivetrain (and a few other parts as well) a couple weeks ago...just in time for the only snow we've had this year. And now every time it looks like the trails will dry out again, it rains...:sobbing:

Next weekend is looking like a go though - it's supposed to be in the 70s and 80s all week, which may be enough to dry everything out.

Edit:

I have a top rack for mine, and it can be a pain to deal with. I'm fairly short though (5'7" ish), so YMMV. After a ride, I usually just throw the bike in the back unless I'm hauling people or the bike is insanely muddy. Definitely wouldn't be practical with a lift.

I have the Thule 964 Revolver and I can't say enough good things about it. It holds 4 bikes (depending on the frame, handlebars and accessories), integrated cable lock and a swing arm so you can still access the hatch with the bikes loaded. I've loaded every kind of bike (that would fit except my stretch) you can think of no problem, every kind of funky frame you can think of. Some you have to load upside-down (some MTBs, women's cruiser bikes and children's bikes) but I've never had an issue with it.

Very durable and high quality build.
