You guys doing anything for Black Friday, I'm more than willing to wait a month :)

Bilstein is releasing a new coilover called the 8100, said to cost about double what a 6112 costs. External reservoir and some new additions etc. Probably not worth it for 95% of us.

No, I wouldn't go spending that much money for a shock (or CO) again.

I thought this was a teaser pic depicting a similar CO adapter like the one Toytec sells for the 5100 shock used in their Ultimate Lift. If someone were to come up with a similar piece for the 6112's I'd order them with that.

In one of Bilsteins early promotional pictures of the 6112, they had a picture of the shock with a threaded collar on it.

That was a threaded prototype shock, not a production unit. It would have been nice but I doubt Bilstein will change that anytime soon.

We always do something for BlackFriday :spy:

I'm also hoping for a Black Friday deal. My XREAS is finally starting to fail so I'm in need of something.

The trick is, I want to keep the height stock.
I just read that the new 6112's on the lowest setting lift the 4runner. Is that true? I read it takes the rake out and the 4runner runs level, but I was hoping for no lift at all.

The OEM (Toyota) springs are rated for 580 lb/in and the 6112 comes with 600 lb/in. So, you'll be getting a tiny bit of lift naturally. However, you are going to replace the rear springs or not? The springs from Wheeler of road net about 1.5" lift, which I think is the shortest amount of lift.

A 20lb/in spring rate increase would not increase the ride height. The clip settings for the spring seat are what would determine that... the newer updated 6112's have a more clips, but not sure what the lowest setting would net. Probably not a huge lift. In that case one could keep stock rear spring and just replace the shocks with whatever shock is preferred.

Install advice

Just as a heads up to anyone ordering these, your standard autozone, amazon or eBay spring compressors where it's effectively clamps on the side do not fit on the 6112's. The Shock body is so large it won't seat on the coil without hitting the body, and there is only about 3 rings that you can grab.

Luckily the no-spring compressor method and a bottle jack work just fine. Just a heads up for beginners like me !

amazing suspension for the money

Looked for a very long time before deciding on 6112's and matching 5160's in the rear of my 4th gen. THIS SETUP IS BOMBER! I live in the desert where there is a ton of high speed running and this setup can take it like a boss. extremely smooth over washboard but takes huge hits very well. Truly the Swiss army knife of suspension, if you don't do any high speed stuff then i would recommend 5100's front and rear, simply cant beat the value of the Bilstein product line.

Great feedback, thanks for that. I can't wait to install my setup. TotalAutomotive told me that the 5160s are not meant for a lifted rig so keep that in mind. They'll bottom out quickly if you have a 2" lift in the rear.

What does a clip do? It pushes the spring up.. What does a higher spring rate do? It holds itself up. Seems like it would accomplish the same thing unless the spring itself is short.

Also the TRD Pro has a 1 inch lift without clips. I think this is accomplished due to spring and not strut seat. Could be wrong though but I think the trd pro suspension is just a non-adjustable version of 6112 (with a higher rate spring than stock just like 6112).

Bilstien says the exact opposite of this. The 5160 has an additional 2" of travel for lifted trucks. I think you meant topping out (full extension), and I have not had issues with that or heard of anyone else who has.

This sounds right. 5160 is a rebranded trd pro rear shock. Toyota says it has an extra 1" of up travel. But people putting 2" icons on the rear get and additional 1" equally a total of 2" extra up travel.

Maybe I missed it but Im not seeing any info for the clip location height adjustments for the v8s. Hope this makes sense.

Hmm, maybe I'm smoking crack...again?
