Anybody else's SR5 visibly leaning?

For a few months, I could have sworn that my runner was leaning a little bit (even when no one is in it). However, I always just wrote it off as either: my imagination, the land, or whatever stuff might be in the car.

Then, last week I saw another SR5 on the road and dad gum if that thing wasn't leaning too! Then I measured. Sure enough, my runner is about 1/2 an inch higher from one side of the bumper to the other (can't remember which side right now).

Has anyone else noticed this or had this problem? HELP!!!\

Gas tank is on the left. A full tank is pretty heavy, that could add some lean.

Thats sucks! You would think that would effect how the truck handled...

I suppose if you're running NASCAR, it would be better to keep a full tank.

My tail is the same way it is about a 1/4 of an inch though my 04 Sr5 was the same way

Maybe check your tire pressure? I am sure you probably already did that...but just a suggestion.

Then I measured. Sure enough, my runner is about 1/2 an inch higher from one side of the bumper to the other (can't remember which side right now).

Making sure you have more than 1/2 tank of gas, put a non-small person in the drivers seat and measure again. I'm guessing it will be more level.

2011 4Runner SR5 Lean

I have the same lean on my new 2011 SR5.
I got about a 1/2 inch lean on the driver side.
The passenger side measure 1/2 inch higher clearance.

Is this normal could you guys go check your 4Runners?

I believe this us dine on purpose to adjust for the crown in the center of a road. I hate that I always make tundra references, but they lean to the drivers side also.

Hello Guys and Gals! This is my first post to this forum and a perfect opportunity to start with something I have also been perplexed by...CLARKER, you are RIGHT ON about that lean! I recently acquired a 97 Limited and discovered the same issue. It is a very real lean. My truck does it with the smallest amount of fuel in the tank and here are my observations. From a smooth level concrete garage floor, identical tires with same air pressure and no objects in the vehicle, 1/4 tank of fuel...measuring from the underside lip of the fender flare to the top of the tire on the rears, the passenger side is 1 inch higher. At the front, passenger side is 3/4" higher! I called several dealers, and after much discussion (several hours and 3 service techs later) we came to the conclusion that the coil springs are worn out. As a bonus, thanks to info gleaned from this site, I am eligible for replacement rear coils under the special service campaign #20A. I will update this thread when I return from the dealer with new coils installed to see if this remedies the leaning problem. I'm going to post questions about the Old Man Emu suspension in another thread for opinions and suggestions. BTW, great forum everybody!

BTW I want to mention that I just measured the lean tonight and the tank was on empty...low gas light was on so can't be the gas tank causing the lean...just real concerning.

And yours is brand new?! That is very odd. Perhaps the lean is engineered into the vehicle, but I fail to see the benefit of it. I have loaded other types of cars and trucks to ridiculous levels with tools, people and such, and yet those vehicle did not produce these lean results. A suspension should be able to compensate for unbalanced loads, especially a 4X4!

Not always springs...

I had the same problem on my '96 SR5. MY 4Runner, if you can believe it, leaned 2 1/4"! I put on all new springs, shocks and struts. Now the truck leans 2/3". The mechanic explained that it's a gasket between the frame and the chassis. A $120 part, a $600 repair due to the man hours to fix the problem, including complete bumper removal and the use of a lift. I'm just trying to live with it for the time being.
