Anybody tell me how to open up my map lights to change the bulb?

Mine is a 2001 4Runner.

These to be exact...they are sold as a pair:

Does anyone else use that light bulb circuit as a 12v power souce for a radar detector?

I have a small wire going from the bulb where it is clipped in (+) and the (-) is grounded to a screw. Make sure to put the wire on the positive potential side of the bulb. My detector is right below the mirror.

I've got some LED panels to go in there, but can't figure out how to open them.......

by map lights, are you talking about the ones by the mirror? or the ones over the passenger seat and the rear compartment?

I can't figure out how to open my two map lights by my rearview mirror...

I have two right above the mirror, two square ones in my 98 SR5. I figured out that you just need to pull the plastic base off, with a little help from the screwdriver.

98 4Runner limited takes a 3175 Bulb in the map light location.
Same as the dome. and same as the rear hatch.

The map lights require 2 bulbs, so if you're replacing all interior bulbs you need 4.

I went with the Sylvania ZEVO DE3175 and it looks great in here.

Also, you do want to take a flathead driver, between the light box assembly and the windshield, you'll see 2 little notches just off center.
Stick the driver in there and apply a little pressure downwards and the whole thing pops right off.
Much easier than I had expected.

The bulb guide shows a DE3175 bulb #. This is the bulb for the dome light, not the map light.

The map light has a small round type bulb which you turn to lock in.
