Anyone else seeing gas prices surging?

I am glad you made this point- In Michigan we pay (well, stupid people do anyways) up to $4 per gallon for Nestle bottled water, for which Nestle pays $.00000095 per gallon. 576,000 gallons per day extracted x 365 days, $200 annual fee.

I find myself conflicted by this. I really want to comment on flint water but I know that would devolve into politics.

But it is good to see people being held accountable for that.

There are two parties - one will cave on any spending initiative as long as taxes don't go up; the other will cave on any tax cut as long as spending doesn't go down. Add them together, and you get 8% inflation every year. Fake calculations allow the government to pretend that inflation is under 2%. COVID bailouts are about to blow the lid off the whole game.

You can Thank the dumb ass Dems for price increases.

Easy man, there are a few here that claim to care about the planet while they drive aimlessly on leisure trips in 19MPG 4R's. :pout:
Their double-standard thing is a calling card.

I am of neither party though.
I'm in the "Leave me the *F* alone and let me figure it out myself as I am a big boy now and have no need for babysitters" party.

That 19MPH slip-up was actually true too.
Fixed to 19MPG.

The Earth is a sweet mother creature, with ugly pools of oil trapped under her skin. Selfless oilmen do dangerous work to remove those poisons, and in turn we on this forum render the Earth a service by driving our 4Rs to safely convert hydrocarbons to water vapor and CO2. Tree food.

Cure the Earth, feed the trees, drive more miles.

Oil is a worldwide commodity and its pricing is complex but it is certainly not set by anyone in Washington. Especially in the two weeks since the election when Biden took the reins. Even if he wanted to he couldn’t make much effect, the US is such a small player in the world supply.

What’s affecting prices most right now is the demand. Remember how cheap gasoline was in the spring of 2020 when no one was driving much due to the covid shutdown? It’s creeping up now that people worldwide are driving more, and the Saudis are playing with the supply trying to goose the price.

Lots of explanation if you google it.

I dont beleive people are drivin that much more to justify gas price increases. There might be a good point in OPEC....
No..i dont wear a tin foil hat...but i wouldnt trust the media for nothin today.
Theres an old attage that I feel is getting more n more true ....
LIARS CAN FIGURE AND FIGURES CAN LIE...

Like anything else including petroleum..prices are based on futures....you will never convince me that sinces the libs want everything green n putting a stop for the US to be energy independent...its not effecting it a great deal...

Oil is going up for these reasons.

Demand increase
OPEC and other countries curtailing production
Speculative activity in commodities

Hey sure but it's easier just to make blanket, divisive statements and blame the guy you don't like.

Go ride Amtrak.

Just tell them Railroad Joe sent ya!

People already *****ing for almost 4 bucks a gallon here in California, even though they proudly voted for the idiot(s) who made this happen.

Talk about blanket statements lol.

The US is currently #1 in oil production. Unfortunately also #1 in oil consumption and still a net importer.

United States Oil Reserves, Production and Consumption Statistics - Worldometer

By shutting down the pipeline, more oil will be imported from unfriendly countries, not to mention thousands of domestic jobs destroyed. By shutting down federal leasing, domestic production will decline, leading to even more importing and fewer domestic jobs. Fracking will also be shut down which will lead to more importing and more joblessness.

Supply and demand of oil will take on different dynamics. Foreign oil cartels will be happy to raise their prices as demand increases.

Yep. The US uses a lot of oil, mostly for transportation. So if there were more EVs on the road there would be less oil needed and the demand could match the supply with what we’re producing now. Energy independence.

And as far as a loss of jobs. The pipeline does not exist yet, so there is no loss. There would be temporary construction jobs for two years. Then about 50 people to operate the pipeline permanently. Big whoop.

Thousands of union jobs have already been wiped out with just the pipeline. Big whoop indeed but not in a cavalier way.

With higher dependency on foreign oil, demand for Tesla’s on one end of the price spectrum may go up and for Corollas on the other end. Maybe the price of trucks and BOF SUVs declines.

Here one article to read.
Fact check: How many jobs lost on Keystone pipeline after Biden order?

I hope lots of people buy and drive EVs. And charge them from their home solar panels and battery banks, as well as at commercial charging stations. That’ll leave more gasoline for us 4Runner owners.
