Anyone heard from Kraeken?

We're okay! Thank you for your concern! Its been a rough week. My house thankfully is undamaged, as there wasn't too much rain and my house seemed to be on the leeward side of the wind, and I took precautions. My neighborhood was mostly blocked by downed trees, and we just got our power back a little while ago. Other parts of the city are a different story.
Much of Staten Island, All of the Rockaways, Lower Manhattan, and parts of Brooklyn are a disaster. I grew up in Rockaway, and my family and many friends are still down there. I've been down there a few times this week. My family is ok. Words can't describe the devastation. The joke going around is Rockaway dressed up as New Orleans for Halloween. Its just like Katrina without as many dead bodies. The entire place was under water, and a lot of it was burning. Breezy point lost four square blocks of homes to fire. The FDNY couldn't get to the fires because of the flooding. In Staten Island, helicopters are picking people off the roofs of their collapsing houses. The FDNY and NYPD got their asses handed to them, and they did an incredible job. Stuff is still going on, though the water has receded. Its going to be years before it gets back to normal.
On a lighter note, my truck is performing amazingly!!! The first night after the hurricane I left work to go to Rockaway to check on family and friends, I was driving over huge dunes that were deposited in the middle of roads, and rock crawling over pieces of sidewalk, boardwalk, fences, streetlights, anything you can think of. I never had a problem getting where I needed to be. I was careful about nails though. I did drive through some seawater, maybe a foot deep, but then I drove through fresh water to rinse it off. My Rigid Duallies have been unbelievable as well. There have been no lights whatsoever, and the Rigids have done an amazing job of lighting up the road (or whatever I happen to be driving on) in front of me. I would have run over many people and things if not for the extra light.
Here are a bunch of pictures My wife and I took over the last few days. What you're looking at is the Rockaway Boardwalk blown off its foundations and thrown all over the peninsula. Five miles of boardwalk gone. The large buildings in the background are dark and cold inside, with people holed up in their apartments, vigilant against occasional looters. Further uptown, houses and buildings that were under four plus feet of water caught fire, and the wind spread it to other buildings. The street around the corner from where I grew up is mostly burned to the ground. Coincidentally, it is the same street flight 587 crashed on...
The other pictures are from my inlaws' neighborhood on Staten Island. Every boat in Great Kills Harbor basically washed up on the streets and into all of the homes. The freighter is not too far from my house on the East Shore of SI.

The fiance and I moved from Manhattan last year to Seattle for military move after 4 years there (USCG), so we've been following closely what's been going on there (I'm originally from New Orleans and did Katrina response, so it all really hits home). Glad you're doing well, it's not easy and have great respect and appreciation for the resilience y'all show out there. We were actually supposed to be there this weekend for the marathon but decided to forgo our trip because there were people stuck in Seattle trying to get back to NYC for their own families, so better to give up a seat to those that need it then go for a pleasure trip. On a final note, the attitudes of people and some public officials can be off-putting to say the least but in the end y'all will be able to get through it. Sometimes it appears compassion can be lost on some people.

My prayers and thoughts go out to those that lost their homes and loved ones. This has truly been a tragedy in my opinion. Unfortunately things are getting worse before they can get better.
I am sure I am not the only one that feels this, but i would like to thank you and your fellow first responders for being there. While my neighborhood was not affected nearly as bad as some others, I can only imagine how much worse it could have been if it weren't for the courage and compassion from people like you when the time came to "suit up".

Josh- I was part of the Katrina response as well, I was with the first FDNY group that went down. This is similar, with less dead bodies.
Large areas of NYC and a large part of the coast of NJ are ruined. Its unbelievable! If anyone is in a position to do so, donations and time are welcome throughout the entire affected area. There are thousands of people who are in need of basic necessities, and just as many who need help repairing and cleaning out their damaged homes.
