Anyone running the GY MT/R kevlars?

BFG KM2's -sold for $500 with 33000 miles on them.
Goodyear Duratracs-5500 miles-sold for $700 credit back to Discount Tire
Bought new 285/70/17 Goodyear MT/R's today for $320 out the door after $80 rebate. Should be in by Wednesday.

Plus I have a whole set of 285/70/17 BFG AT KO's on 4th Gen Sport rims I bought on CL for $200.

you hated those D-load Duratracs, huh? did you consider the 255/80-17 KM2s?

wish we had Discount Tire in new england. takeoffs here go to CL, Uncle Henry's, or the Springfield tire fire.

Slightly ahead of schedule my new 275/70/17 MT/R Kevlars arrived and were installed. Only have 3 miles so not much to report. Definitely stiffer and louder than my E rated 265 DuraTracs as expected. I was with the two installers as they mounted them up and got to compare the insides of the two tires... quite a difference. I'll follow up as I roll some miles on these badboys.

Thanks guys. I definitely prefer the look, and think the 275 size is perfect for the 4Runner. I wish more tires were offered in the 275/70/17. Not much to choose from.

Got up to 85mph on the way in today. Very smooth, no steering wheel shake, just like the DuraTracs. I so far feel no power difference, although when taking my foot off the gas I seem to notice it more than before. Interestingly, the louder noise I noticed yesterday was cruising at 40mph or so. At speed on the highway I swear they are quieter than my Duras were (although my set has 20k on them and have become louder). I'm sure as these wear the sound will get amplified.

We had a bit of a spring storm here yesterday with wet and slushy roads. The MT/Rs really channel water no problem. The roads were not cold enough to freeze, so no ice testing, but water will be no issue. Very impressed after a few hundred miles; this tire has very unique properties.

I now have one complete tank on them and one that was run 75% on them. Looking at the full tank as the best comparison I dropped 1.5 - 2 MPG from what I was used to with my 265 DTs. I did hammer it a lot more the last tank than I usually do. I feel acceleration is the same. I notice these tires over 65mph more than the DuraTracs though. When I tank my foot off the gas I feel it slow, and in that 65+ range I am always in 4th gear when going uphill. With the 265s I could sometimes hold 5th. My 275s are E rated, and interestingly enough they are only 1 pound less per tire than the 285 MT/R. They are also 4 pounds heavier than a 285 DuraTrac for comparison, and 7 pounds heavier than my old 265s.

Overall I remain very pleased with the tire and expected the MPG hit.

Yep, Finally got them put on last Wednesday . I got them in size 285/70/17 and love them so far. Much stiffer sidewall then the Duratracs I replaced and more like what I'm used to and like in the feel of a tire.

Put 3-400 miles on them last weekend driving back and forth to my daughters soccer games in some super windy conditions here Sat. and they felt and tracked great. Would have taken pics but got home late last night and by the time I washed her up from the bug onslaught ,it was too dark out.

Right at one month now. Thanks to Harper, I tried airing the E range 275s back up to 42 from the 35 I was running. What a difference that made. The lag I experienced is gone and it feels very similar to my 265 DuraTracs. My last tank was half at 35psi and half at 42psi and I got 19mpg.

Amazing to think these tires are made for off road use primarily, yet on road they are fantastic. They are extremely smooth, relatively quiet, and only at real low speeds (starting from a stop or slowing to a stop) can you feel the lugs (which is rather cool IMO :guitar3. Super option for the 4Runner.

Glad to hear it. There has been no bigger proponent of the DuraTrac than me, but comparing these MT/Rs to the DT at the time of install made me really see the difference in the sidewall strength. Maybe Goodyear will add kevlar to the Duras at some point.

Damn, you've almost got me convinced! I like the 275 size, think it looks perfect, but don't like the generic look of the Destinations, and heard the quality of the BFGs has dropped lately. So, this tire might be a contender. Too bad it's a bit pricey...

I think when Harper bought his set (285s) they had to order them in. Not sure if the distribution centers are out too? The rebate runs through May, which sure sweetens the deal.

Have you had a chance to run the MTr's thru snow or snowy/icey conditions, if so how did they do? I am looking at 285 duratracs for my 2008 (has the v6), but after reading this thread starting to consider the MTr in either 275/70 17 or maybe even the 255/70 17. I live in WI, so snow/ice performance needs to be decent.

I've got 35" MTR Kevs on the trail truck. 37's or 4d's soon. They work great in all types of terrain from sharp rocks to scree to snow and are tougher than necessary (in a good way) on a truck like ours. If you are tearing them up on a $40k truck you are either doing it wrong or are beating the brakes off that thing.
Get 'em if you want the best at off road (within reason ie: radials with decent wear).
