2011 SR5 for 2013 TE
We traded our 2011 SR5, which had a 3-inch lift, ProComp wheels, 33” BFG Mud-Terrains and nerf bars for a 2013 TE. In 2011, we went to purchase a TE, however, the Dealer had this SR5 with the options installed. We got caught up in the look of the SR5 and ultimately purchased it, regrettably. We ended up having tons of issues with those dealer options (many many vibration, chipping wheels, ect.). This led to the truck spending about 30 nights at the dealership of the course of the 15 months that we owned it. Finally the dealer basically told us they wouldn’t warranty their options, although they were still under warranty and that the factory warranty was void from all of the modifications that they installed.
So, we decided to trade it in for the truck we really wanted, a 2013 TE with KDSS, Nav and BFG All-Terrains. We got $30,000 for our base model 2011 SR5 with 14,000 miles on it plus a $3,000 refund for our extended warranty and service plans. So, a grand total of $33,000. I think we could have probably sold it privately for about $34,000 but I didn’t want to deal with it.
We got our TE with BFG All Terrains installed by the dealer for $37,800. MSRP was $40,890ish.
This doesn't really compare apples to apples, but hopefully it helps. Ultimately the dealer is going to make money on the deal. My only recommendation is to shop around, and I mean all over the country. The cheapest 2013 TE i found was at Koons Toyota in Vienna, Virginia.
I used this in the negotiation with my local dealer, and i feel as though it paid off.
