You can certainly get there without a lift... I don't have one and am running
265/50/20 Nitto Terra Grappler ATs. The coordinates are 11S NS 79362 49492.
Diablo Drop-off won't be a problem with a stock, 4x4 Runner.
If you have an iPhone or an Android, download an app called PDF Maps and then download the map "Anza-Borrego Desert State Park"... It's all free and you can use the map w/o any phone reception! It pinpoints where you are once you reach the map boundaries, all offline.
To get to S. Borrego, I took 78 E to 15 South, 8 East to exit toward El Centro and then S2 North (Imperial HWY). There's a Chevron Gas Station if you go S2 South - 1071 Imperial Hwy
IF YOU ARE SHORT ON TIME
1. Head North on S2 to mile marker 43
2. Take Palm Springs or Vallecito Wash exit (dirt road heading E)
3. Approximately 4.5 miles in, you will see a sign that says Arroyo Tapiado (on the left).
4. Go left at the Arroyo Tapiado Wash N
5. Continue on Arroyo Tapiado Wash Road until you reach canyon/caves
IF THERE’S TIME
1. Head North on S2
2. N on Canyon Sin Nombre to Vallecito Creek NW
3. Right on Fork to Arroyo Tapiado Wash until you reach the canyon/caves. You will see a structure that looks like it's set up for vehicles to park. On the opposite side, you will see a small cave... that's where the Mud Caves begin. The side where cars park is a trail that leads to a lot of cool things, too.
FIND CAMPSITE
1. Continue NW on Arroyo Tapiado and fork right to Seco del Diablo
2. Go left (N) on Fish Creek/Diablo Drop-off
3. Find a campsite
TO 78 (*** Do not head NW on Fish Creek Wash***)
1. Head back Fish Creek NE
2. Take to Split Mountain Wash
3. N on Split Mountain Rd to 78 W
