ARB 50 qt refrigerator powered from stock 12v cargo?

I've read as much as I can find with a search and also on expeditional portal, but I haven't found a clear confirmation of this, even though I think it is possible.

Will the stock 12v outlet in the cargo area power a 50qt ARB refrigerator while driving? I will plug the refrigerator into an alternate source when not driving, so I don't need the ability to run with the ignition off.

I'm curious because i'm considering a yeti400 battery pack that will be used until if/when I do the dual battery setup (i just don't want to do it before i understand if i like the refrigerator).

The 12v (DC) outlet in Cargo Space is rated for 120 Watts. It is only energized while key is in Accessory position (or driving). It is protected by a 15 Amp fuse.

Looks like the 50qt ARB Fridge consumes 7.0 Amps @ 12VDC (in other words: 84 Watts).

Yes, I had to do so this weekend. It stayed at temp during stops while the engine was off. But I 'think' I remember reading that arb recommends their wiring, which I also think is 8G, directly connected to the battery for max performance and the least use of power.

I ran an 8 guage from the engine bay to the the rear jack area to a Blue Sea 6 circuit panel....and then ran additional "always on" outlets( on either side, including some USB ports)...run it with confidence.

If you look at the wires to rear OEM outlets it looks like 22#....maybe in an emergency it work...but I'd hate to burn up an 800$ cooler for some simple mods.

We just got a Coleman Iceless cooler for an upcoming road trip. It is not a refrigerator, but it does run off 12 VDC or 120 VAC. We tested it and it works well; however, it (like the instructions say) takes quite a while for it to cool down - approx 3 hours. You can shorten this time by placing cooled items inside. It was just under $100.

You probably have the same one as me, got mine at Costco and it came with the adaptor to plug in the night before at home. Even still I put room temp drinks in, toss Ina small ice pack and plug in and drive, usually an hour later the drinks are cold. It does a great job for drinks and things like that. I'll pack a lunch for everyone along with drinks and it keeps it all cold by the time we get to our picnic spots. Good option if you are short on time and not ready to spend the money on the ARB [MENTION=75328]DannyLlama[/MENTION] If you hate it Costco will take it back as well!

Yes a real fridge would be nice, maybe if/when I get a trailer. :frusty:

I've gotten my use out of this one though, and well it's a bit cooler in our mtns than around you.
