ARB Locker Package Contents?

Anyone have an ARB rear locker that they haven't installed yet? I bought a very slightly used RD193 ARB locker from another forum and it just arrived today.

I am just wondering what I need to buy that may need to be replaced or may not have been included. I want to make sure I have everything when I take it to Duc's shop for install! Check the pic for everything that I have.

Thanks guys.

Where you going to put your air compressor and tank? I am thinking of a locker down the road as well and looking for ideas.

Check out this thread:
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/109810-arb-compressor-question.html

I have been debating exactly where to put it. I will probably mount the engine compartment in the engine compartment on the passenger side, or maybe in the back somewhere. As far as the tank goes, I am still unsure if I am going to use the small ARB manifold or a larger tank. The size will determine my mounting location so I am undecided about this as well. When it all comes in I i will figure it out.

I was gonna say the compressor. But it seems you've got plans already.

The only small items you're missing are the fittings that will go to/through the axle. I would also recommend the bearing kit. There is a special bearing that needs to go on one side of the carrier for the air. There should also be a retainer for that side as well. You may or may not need shims.

Everything but the fittings will come in a bearing install kit. Depending on mileage, you'll want the pinion bearing kit too.

Thanks for the info! Yea I think I am going to do the compressor myself. I just don't want to mess with the Diff myself (I've heard a few stories that don't end well...).

Alright sounds good I will look for some of those parts. Thanks

Also the milage on this locker is 2500-4000 (used sparingly)

This PDF lists the installation instructions and the part breakdown for this locker. This PDF says it is for the RD132 but this is what ARB links to from the RD193 page so I am assuming it is similar. The last two pages list the breakdown, and the parts list with part numbers. Which parts do you think I will need? Here are some common replacement parts from 4x4 Connection also.

PDF: http://store.arbusa.com/Assets/PDF/RD132_i.pdf

4x4 Connection Parts:
ARB Air Locker Replacement Parts, Rocker Switches, Switch Covers, Air Line, Solenoids, Pressure Switch, Line Splicers

haha..I meant the mileage on the truck. Generally, it's not worth reusing the carrier and pinion bearings since pattern has to be reset anyway.

oh, and you might have all the fittings. I can't see what's in the plastic bag.

That makes more sense now...haha. The mileage on my truck is around 15,000. I will do a more thorough inventory later and see if anything looks like it has excessive wear. If so I might just get some new parts to make sure everything is as good as it can be.

Regarding lockers, is there anyway to put the diff locker from the Trail Edition into the SR5? I really don't understand why Toyota decided to take it out :(

Thats a pretty good question, I don't really see why not...but then again I don't have a lot of knowledge in this area. May be pretty expensive though. Someone should give you a better answer here soon.

Sure, anything is possible if you throw enough money at it.Believe me the ARB lockers are tried and true and a much easier and cheaper way.

Here are just a few parts that are different and this doesn't even get in to the wiring ,ECU and labor involved in a axle swap.

Housing, Diff'l
Limited, SR5 Model #4.2 42110-60A80 $1,024.95

Trail Model
w/Dynamic Suspension #4.2 42110-60B40 $1,024.95
w/o Dynamic Suspension #4.2
42110-60B20

$1,024.95
Housing, Carrier
Limited, SR5 Model #6.0 41110-35C80 $1,358.36
Trail Model 41110-35D30 $1,358.36

We have the parts manual, wiring and repair manual online here on the forum if somebody really wants to do it.
This is page 160 of the parts manual.

Thanks for the info Harper. There is a lot more than I initially anticipated! I'll take a closer look at these ARB lockers.

If you have a non locked housing then the third member is going to be the standard 8.2" v6 carrier which will not have the cut out for the electric motor for the e-locker. Seeing that the 2010+ 4Runner and 2010+ FJ Cruiser use the exact same axles and suspension components you could find a wrecked 2010+ FJ Cruiser with a locked housing and swap it onto your 4Runner. However, in my opinion it would be easier to have a shop set up an ARB air locker and it will cost less in the end.

ARB is definitely a good alternative to doing an entire swap. These things are super hugh quality and as long as your get a good install I have never heard of anyone having any issues. It is definitely cheaper as well. The locker will run you about 1000, and you can get a compressor (depending on your needs) anywhere from 150-500. Then simply factor in the price of the install, which I am still waiting on Ducmonsta to get back to me with, and you are looking at a setup that is just as capable for half the price.

whoops! Sorry about that. I get so many pms and emails from the shop that it fell down to the bottom of the list. I'll get you a quote today.

Philly2d...??.. Did I read that right.. compressor INSTALLED? pics my man... where are the pics! didn't you see my post in the compressor thread (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/109810-arb-compressor-question-3.html#post1030406) regarding a mounting bracket? :frog: :bash: :D

Okki

Obviously I failed correct sentence structure in school. Which is par for the course since I failed pretty much everything else too. Which must be why I ended up so rich :D

Sorry. Compressor is in house but not installed. Switches (connected to nothing but air) already installed.

I would do the compressor now but wanted to wait till I got the manifold.

Awesome! post some pics when it all comes in! What is the "JT-IK T8.2 Mini Install Kit" for? Is that something I will need to grab?

And Okki I think he means he just has the switches installed (check his build thread). He has the compressor but has yet to install it. I need to just bite the bullet and buy that compressor here soon.
