I am down to buying a Grand Cherokee or a 4runner. The price is a little higher on the 4runner, but I don't mind that. I am afraid of it though for one reason. I bought a 2001 Tacoma brand new. The 60/40 seat made me so uncofortable that I traded it in a month later on a Wrangler. My legs would fall asleep, my butt would kill me it just sucked in every direction. The funny thing is as an avid mountain biker, I would have thouhgt my butt/legs would be up for anything. Anyway, after reading Tacoma Territory's forum, I realized it was Standard Operating Procedure to replace those seats ASAP. Apparently, they suck for a lot of people. Well, the time has come for a little bigger vehicle. I am trading in the Wrangler. I really like the 4runner better as far as dependability although my Wrangler was stellar in that regard, I have heard the Grand is not the same. The only thing holding me from signing Monday is my fear of the Tacoma seats. I have had about 15 cars over the years from all sorts of makers and never had a problem. I am just worried that maybe this is a common thing with Toyotas. I took a 20 minute test drive without problem earlier, but I just don't want to lose money on this one by trading it the way the last trade went. Well, any thoughts?

Yeah, I went for a bit of a test drive the other day. If I buy one, I will try it again for even longer. I was just wondering if there are a number of known comfort type complaints. I bought the Tacoma and thought I would have it for ever. They were legendary in the mileage realm. If I had gone to a Taco group however and asked whether the seats were uncomfortable, I would have been bombarded with horror stories. I didn't want that to happen again. Thanks for your response. I was beginning to think everyone thought I was crazy...well, I guess they still may... :arrow:

The seats in the Tacoma and 03/04 4R are completely different. There is nothing similar about them.
I find the seats comfortable, not as "perfect" as Lexus but still very good. If you like more squishy soft seats than the Jeep Grand Cherokee is a better bet.

I have an 02 4Runner and I find the seats to be pretty good for long trips. They are firm and well supported. Much better than my 2000 Maxima, which my legs would fall asleep. Buy my Dad's Escalade, now those are comfort seats. I could go cross country non stop in those seats.
It's really about choice. I like firmer seats. I test drove the Jeep GC and found the seats to be really soft. My first test drive of a toyota was weird. I did not have the seat adjusted correctly, and the head rest was too low. But now I have found a really good driving positon. It took me a little while to get used to the high floor because of the frame.
Overall I think the seats are great.

I didn't like the seat bottom cushion from my test drive, but I liked the vehicle so much I bought the '03 anyway. I've had my butt in German seats for a long time, which means firm. I should consider myself lucky if Grand Cherokee seats are even softer foam. I must admit my butt is starting to learn to live with the seat after 7 months. Even thought of going to an upholsterer to replace the foam, but what kind of mess would I be getting into with possible sensors in the seat? Otherwise, love the 'Runner!
