Are White Letter Tires Tacky or Cool?

Let me explain...I am new to truck ownership. The T4R is my first. I need new tires and just realized what I chose is emblazened with white letters. Should I flip 'em?

On one hand I think it's tacky. On the other hand, maybe not so bad, I see Jeeps and Pickups with them, then, the 4Runner isn't either.

So what do the "cool" folks who have 4Runners say? :

Honestly, it's your truck...all about personal preference.

I honestly don't really pay much attention to it unless I'm trying to see what type of tires someone else has.

I personally like them. But, I'm big on keeping my vehicles real clean too. If you keep them clean they look great. If you don't, flip them because they'll look like sh*t dirty.

BTW-was that you that posted a few months ago about the title issues in MO?

I think it really depends on how your truck looks, your wheel choice, and your tire choice.

Some brands have good white lettering, while others really lack.

I once had my tires mistakenly mounted with white letter out. After dealing with it for a little while, the tire guy at work flipped them to black wall.

The white itself eventually yellows and looks bad... black always looks good.

I have always kept mine out. I like to keep them clean, which makes them pop...however, I only like the white outlined letters, not solid. Plus, my truck is White, and I think it brings the eye from the body, to wheel, back to body(thats probably the art degree in me!) I plan on getting new tires with the white letters and sticking those bad boys out.

IMHO, on a 4x4 its bad, tacky, nasty what ever you want to call it, white letters out was popular in the 80s on cruisers, hot rods and street queens.

Bottom line, Its your rig, do as YOU please..

I personally think it depends on the vehicle, mods, etc. They're also a serious pain to keep looking good. Mine look terrible after so many years and I personally think that it doesn't go with my 3rd Gen and I can't wait to remove them.

Nice garage BTW, I've ridden in some 993's. Fantastic cars.

I like white out. I keep them fairly clean and bright and they look great! I think it draws an eye to them, and people see how nice my BFG ATs look. When I spend a grand on a set of tires I want people to notice them. I get complements on them, but I feel good knowing I have a great quality set of tires. It's like buying an expensive car and taking the emblems off. I don't get it. I don't like the black rim and tire look I've seen, or black emblems, black windows, black grill, black bumpers, etc. and I don't care for black vehicles or interior.

Ive always ran letters out. Love it. But it truly depends on your whole setup and personal pref.

Not uncool, just not my style. In the end, if you plan on taking your runner out then it makes no sense to try and keep up with the white outline of the tires. Too much of a hassle to keep clean

On my 96 Taco I had white letters out. With my 01 T4R I run it black. I prefer the later, but ultimately it comes down to what you like since you have to drive it.

Personal I think it looks better blacked out, but I chose 'it's up to you bub', mostly bc you said 'bub', and bub is the new old 'homie'... and honestly, Jesus is the only one to judge, or whomever decides you deserve to go to hell,,, gurrr HELLL!:hiding::moon::violin:

i depends on the rig... i personally do not like white letters but on some rigs it just flows, like derekabrahams rig, his looks good with the white out. but i guess its your rig so do what blows your skirt up...

Yes, that was me.

Now I am making my first "aesthetic" decision on my T4R! RWL tires or no RWL tires. Decisions, decisions.

I too agree that it's sort of dependent on setup. I think it can look good on a body that's darker. I had them out on my green Tacoma and while I did like them, I'd never do that again simply because it was a HUGE PITA to keep them clean and I hated looking at them when they were dirty. On my silver 4Runner, I like them black. I don't think they'd look good on that color with the white out.
