At Dealer - ECO LIGHT in-2012 LE - is there a final consensus on this?

Have seen several posts for older models but nothing that clearly answers the question.

I'm at the dealer right now for my first 5,000 mile service. I handed them a sheet of custom configuration (like turning off the seat belt chime).

I asked them to also turn off the Eco Light but both the service guys said it can't be done.

I read some posts here that it can be done. Then some other posts seemed to indicate it could be turned off but it would take it out of "Eco Mode" and you'd get worse mileage...

So

1. Can the eco light be turned off in the 2012 models
2. is the eco light connected in any way to any performance or mileage related things? meaning will turning it off affect anything other than the light itself?

It's just a lightbulb, and you can disable it by holding down the mileage reset button on the Optitron gauge cluster while on the ECO/mpg screen.

I've had mine disabled since I rolled it off the dealership lot 16 months ago.

You can turn it off yourself. It is in the manual.

Thats pretty sad a dealer can't figure out how to turn off the ECO light since Toyota made it so easy for the owner to do.
And no it does nothing except let you know how heavy footed you are.

Disabling the Eco Light activates the extra 2 cylinders that quite a few of our board members have been wishing for. Only problem is decreased gas mileage with a newly acquired lead foot from a red light.

In all seriousness though, the Eco Light does nothing but show you that your supposedly driving within a certain "efficient rage". It's just an annoying green light. Drive normally as you do and its about the same, unless you got the lead foot.... Like others have said, its in the manual. If I remember correctly, you just cycle through the ODO via that button and when you get to ECO screen just press and hold and it will turn off.

Aghh, i feel like a schmuck now that's I know it's in the manual. I swear I spent a half hour this morning going through the manual determining which custom settings I wanted. But since the eco light wasn't on that custom configuration section I figured it wasn't customizable. doh!

Thanks again all...now if I could just figure out how to get those extra two cylinders.

scroll your odometer until you see ECO on/off (right after trip b or mpg cant remember) and hold the button in until it reads off.

Service guy just came in to tell me they're almost finished and he said they were also able to "bypass the eco light for me by using their scanning system". lol!

As I always say, I don't mind being lied to but I do very much mind that they think I'm stupid enough to believe their lies.

I sure hope you call them out on the lie. Then ask the Service Manager if you supports paying customers being so insulted.

Yup. When I took mine in for the 10k service they told me I needed a serpentine belt, and would install it for $250. I told them to go f*ck themselves. Then they came back and said...oh never mind. It's fine. LOL

If I didn't know any better I might have just said okay, and they would have taken my $250.

I drive with inefficient rage, but then I've got an '03 V8.
